    Best personal protection ammo?

I figure you LEOs have a better sense of what's what with ammo selection. I am seeking an effective .40 bullet for my carry gun. Are their choices that a majority of you guys prefer? There are so many choices...I assume there is something that's less likely to exit the body (and hurt someone else) but still penetrate an extra heavy leather (biker's) jacket if need be. The more I research bullet composition, fragmentation, weight, powder, KE...the more I question what's best. Any insights? I carry a Glock 22.

For my "dress gun" when I need something much more discreet I carry the LCR using .38+P WIN Bonded 130gr JHP. Seems sufficient but always open to educated opinions.

Thanks to all you LEOs for positioning yourselves between us and the a-holes.

I am curious what the LEOs carry, that's all. On or off duty.

Usually what's issued by the agency. May or may not be the "best" available, budget's usually come into play.

Buy what function's in your gun reliably and what is within your personal budget to be able to run a fair amount through your gun to ensure it's reliability and have some left over for carry and a few boxes left over.

I have run all kinds of cheap and expensive ammo thru my Glock including some rather inferior, obviously well aged reloads and it has never failed to fire, never jammed, even when dirty.

BTW, cost is not a concern. I am inclined to purchase the same WIN ammo in .40 as i am for my .38

.380, 9mm, .40, and .45 all tested here. Draw your own conclusions. A little over 1/2 way down the page are .40 tests.

Lucky Gunner tests more than 110 different 9mm, 45 ACP, 40 S&W and 380 ACP handgun self-defense ammunition loads in ballistic gel with analysis and video.

I get whatever JHP they have at Walmart. Usually they have Winchester at a reasonable price.

Most "premium" ammo is fine. I have tested many different "premium" ammo and they all perform about the same. In the water tank, they expand reliably just like the catalog shows. So, buy a few different brands and use the one works the best in your pistol.

Thanks for that...looks like the WIN PDX fits my bill perfectly. Liking the expansion, depth of penetration and velocity. Made my choice and ordered em.

I'm retired but still carry department issued ammo. Legal (symbolic and substantive), logistical, etc. reasons.

Our policy allows any JHP from a reputable manufacturer.

tnoudoors9 on YouTube has some really good reviews on ammo performance.
