    Carrying Off Duty In NY

A coworker of mine is going to NY for Christmas and we were discussing potential problems with carrying his off duty and visiting tourist attractions. Does anyone know/have an experience with carrying your off duty at the Statue of Liberty or Rockefeller center? We are covered under HR218 to carry in all 50.

    Thanks!

Statue of Liberty has metal detectors, don't know about Rockefeller Center, but most big tourist attractions are no carry zones, but may have gun lockers for LE. You'll need to check with individual sites on their policies.

With private property, their place, their rules.

Statue of Liberty is run by the National Park Service.

Gotta watch magazine capacity too. LEOSA (HR218) is vague on that. Type of ammo is now covered under LEOSA. NY has that 7 round capacity law. It was amended, but I don't know the specific restrictions in NY.

It's still 7 rounds. Someone can have 10 round mags, but you can't put more than 7 rounds in them.

Last time I went to Manhattan, I left my ID and off duty stuff in New Jersey where I was staying...

I travel to NY 1-2 times per month.

Just as an FYI, there is a lot of internal beefs between departments, for instance the NY Port Authority and NYPD (probably the biggest). Lots of petty issues.

Pretty much all major attractions are no carry.

          Mag capacity is non-issue.

When I travel I usually go into the "revolver mode" to avoid problems. I would e-mail NYPD police officer's association or union to get a better idea. Please post a response if you get one.

I carried in NY. I was on board the Liberty Cruise with my pistol (S&W Shield). I spoke to an officer, and he escorted me and my wife past the metal detector after he signed me in the book at the office. He checked my credentials (retired) but never checked my pistol. I don't know their policy, but I believe he provided me with "courtesy."

The same thing happened in Chicago at the "Sears Tower."

Went about 4 years ago and asked some Officers at the 9-11 memorial. They said they did not have lockers, at least back then. Learned it was basically impossible to carry if you want to start visiting a bunch of locations.

Avoid New York, especially since there's so many other "pro-gun" and beautiful scenic vacation "gems" elsewhere in this country.
