Sheriff activity in neighborhood

I haven't been able to go home since about 1pm due to activity. Access to my street blocked off and there are about 30 personnel in area including 3 SWAT vehicles.

Everyone but my wife has been evacuated. They were going to take her out in an armored vehicle to stand in an area outside of subject house (near me), but due to her severe back pain she couldn't. They have allowed her to stay in our bedroom at rear of home.

No idea when this will be over. There is a radio car on my yard and a SWAT vehicle in street in front. Chopper overhead

Looks like my wife isn't getting her donut for awhile.

You must live near me. It was a 20 hour standoff with a domestic violence suspect holed up inside the home. Started yesterday afternoon and was barely resolved this morning around 7. I know that ending these things peacefully is the ultimate goal, but when you verify the suspect is the only one inside there are other options (less lethal) that can make his decision really uncomfortable to remain inside. This was kind of ridiculous. My agency would have maybe waited five hours tops, before some kind of decision would have been made to either make entry or deploy pepper ball/CS gas.

Not having been there, I will withhold judgement on the tactics used, time spent, etc. There is no way to handle these types of standoffs without criticism from one direction or another.

First and foremost, no officers hurt, no victims, and even the suspect uninjured is a win for everyone. Even if known that there were no friendlies inside the location, I'd still be very concerned about sending a team into some sort pre-planned ambush or exposed kill zone. Less lethal is a great option, but affects different people in various ways. I have personally seen people indifferent to OC and CS exposure, and who knows if the bad guy has a mask (not unheard of.)

Glad it ended peacefully. Sucked for the neighbors to be sure. Too bad some of those neighbors weren't the people, some of whom post to this site, that think every sort of standoff should be resolved with a long, drawn out siege. It is a great theory, providing you are looking at it academically and aren't actually affected by it.

Retired - I guess we live about 1/2 mile apart. That airship was orbiting for about 5 or 6 hours at least. Heard it involved an RSO Dep in a domestic dispute.

Yeah like the same tactic used in that chase a few months on the 91 that had close to 20, 000 vehicles backed up for many miles for at least 6 hours! Just because of a guy in a Mercedes standoff!.....

The streets were opened at 7:30am and I returned around 11am. To be a little more specific, my home is directly across from the location and we know the family, so it is a very sad situation. One of the personnel at the command center used to work for my dept. and we worked together. He told me late on the first night they thought it was going to be wrapped up, but things changed and that didn't occur unfortunately.

I won't say anymore than that other than to say I'm glad he surrendered and no one was hurt. Were we and the neighbors greatly inconvenienced (many were unable to retrieve needed medicine, myself included), yes, but the inconvenience is overshadowed by the fact no leos were hurt and neither was the suspect.
