    Police and Fire Championships

Anyone compete in the 'large bore' rifle divisions? Was looking at doing it next year. Just want to get an idea of the equipment used. Was looking into a new bolt action .308 to compete with in the 'any rifle' division. Also, the rules don't state if you can use a bipod from the seated position. I'm guessing no, but wanted to see. Thanks

You can be in either service rifle category or match rifle category. Service rifle is a rifle with original military configuration with internal modifications allowed. M-1A or AR-15 are the most common rifles. Any other form is a match rifle. They shoot side-by-side. So, you need to decide which category you want to shoot first. And, you will be in one of Marksman, Sharpshooter, expert, or Master class. If you are new and unclassified, you will be competing against masters.

I shoot service rifle matches. I have the following equipment:

    1. M-1A rifle with Krieger barrel and McMillan stock accurized by a Marine Corps match armorer, a good sling is a must,
    2. Heavy shooting coat by Creedmoor,
    3. Kowa TSN-821 spotting scope with 27X LER eye piece,
    4. Shooting mat,
    6. Match ammo by either Federal or LC Match (I use reload for practice),
    7. Other bits and pieces as necessary

    Bipod is not allowed.

I have not shot the games since 2010. So, I don't know if rules have changed. I am not aware of "any rifle" division.

You're running a springfield m1a? Is it the higher end national match model? Or more of an entry level one?

The new category of "any/tactical" rifle is bolt or semi auto, any optic. Its kind of an open class. I was thinking about a M1A but I saw a very nice bolt action that is of considerably higher quality than a match grade Springfield M1A and a little less money too. So i can get a good optic instead of spending the extra coin on the weapon. Just a thought. The rules have chanhed quite a bit in the last few years. They did aqay with the "sniper" division and rolled it into the "large bore" shooting. But as always, I want to make sure I'm within the rules, dont want to get DQ or not shoot because I showed up with something that doesnt fit anywhere.
