Lojack Question

I can't tell if that is the same outfit. The name is the same but the logo is different. This company seems to be focused on fleet tracking. The Teletrac of years ago did stolen vehicle recovery.

The GM "On Star" system also does stolen vehicle tracking.

My whole point is that a GPS based service tells officers where the vehicle is and where it is going. Lojack makes us search for it like a needle in a haystack.

LoJack is old technology but the only thing that it still has going for it over modern GPS, is that the radio signals penetrate concrete, etc. So if your vehicle is in a parking garage or the like, GPS will not work where the LoJack will. It is the only feature/advantage that hasnt made Lojack totally obsolete.

Valid point. The alternatives I've began looking into uses a combination of gps and cell towers. Plus the additional features vs. Lojack outweighs (IMHO) its ability to penetrate a concrete structure. Thank you for your feedback!

I actually like the features it offers as well. I'm starting to lean away from Lojack and into either the viper or teletrac. Thank you.

Yes, This is the service plan options they offer. I went with the $239, 3 year plan. You can live track your vehicle and do a host of other things also. The other gucci stuff needs a compatible alarm system to go with it. So far so good with my system.

Thanks man! That's also handy if you're ever away and the kids are home. There's no way they can sneak off without you knowing. I'll give them a call tomorrow if time permits and see if it's compatible.

The biggest drawback to lojack is the range, I believe the signal has a radius of only 3 miles.. If OnStar is an option, that is the best system for 10851 recovery.

I've found the Onstar tracking to be pretty accurate. It also allows you to kill the engine if the vehicle is stolen. Another feature of Onstar that I did not know about is the cellular phone service that is included in some of the packages. My silverado can make calls from places that my cell phone only dreams of working.

Onstar piggybacks on the Verizon network.

Way back when they first came out I was living in an area with one of the higher auto theft rates in the nation.

the thieves learned quickly that after stealing a car (and going through it for valuables) to park it in a different neighborhood where they could drive by and watch the car.
If no police arrived to recover it after so many days they knew it definitely didn't have the LoJack activated.

Nowadays I think with LoJack stickers on your car thieves would just move onto the next car, unless you're driving something extremely rare and valuable.

LOL the cops often just staked out those cars and picked up the thiefs when they returned.

I don't have Lojack, but I have modern GPS trackers installed in all my collector cars. They are small (easy to hide) and have a backup battery (in case they disconnect the battery).

You can see exactly where your car is, at any time, from any computer.

I would never get LoJack. In fact, if my car gets stolen, I hope I don't discover it for weeks. I don't want my car back after it's been literally "driven like it was stolen," even for a short period of time.

My insurance pays out pretty good value on a stolen car.

First the thieves know the lojack is usually hidden behind the glove box so they rip it out right away. Make sure if you buy it they do not install it behind the glove box.

Second not one of our new cars in the last 5 years have come equipped with a lo jack antenna set. Some of the really old cars still have the antenna and it does help in the recovery.

I was in patrol in the 1980s and 1990s and I remember all of the false reports on the LoJack system in the radio cars I drove. Not once in all those years did I ever get anything but a false reading, so I wasn't impressed.

We have a 2006 Pilot with a Mobile Guardian and Karr System. The dealer put the system on the cars in the lot and would leave them on if the buyer wanted them. We decided to keep it. I realize this is an old system, but we have been fortunate not to discover if it works.

If someone steals it, it is supposed to notify us (if we of course have locked the car using the key fob to activate the system). We can, in real time via computer, determine where the car is and where it is going. All we have to do is contact local le via 911 and let them know. It also has the disable system, but the car has to be turned off first by the bad guys to activate it. They won't be able to start it again.

We do not want to have to ever test the system. Thieves, stay away!
