I find the people that say this are usually are permanent SSI for some trumped up condition and are therefore not paying taxes.

Fire guys hear the same crap too. Had a guy walk out of section 8 housing and ask why we waste fuel getting fast food. Had to explain that we were returning from a drill and were out anyway.
Had a guy betch at us buying groceries, thought the county was paying for it. Explained we paid out of pocket to cut that off. Then we were wasting time. I explained none of us lived in the city and every time he saw us at the grocery store or Starbucks or getting fast food we were spending in the city instead of taking all our pay back to our home towns.
I told one old fart since I paid taxes too I felt I was kinda self employed. Ended up saying yes sir a few times in the chiefs office for that.

To be accurate that would be 50% tax free with a medical retirement...


If you retire after age 50 and have enough years in like I do I do have the 90% retirement....

But I do pay taxes on that amount..To the great state of Arizona as well as the fed's.

I smartly moved out of California, so I no longer pay any California tax....
