    HR 218 Question

I learned today that even when you have the certificate, some municipalities or states may restrict the magazine and ammunition type. Is it true? And, where can I find the information about that? I need to fly to NY and drive to CT in July. I do not want to get into a trouble.

Maybe I should not take my pistol.

Ammunition is ok as that was amended in the last revision. Magazines have not been added in to the narrative of LEOSA. Therfoore, you have to abide by what the state law is. I believe new york has a 10 round limit for their mag restriction.

Some would argue that the mag is part of the weapon, and if it came with a larger mag, then you are covered because leosa covers the weapon. It is a strong argument, but i did not want to be the test case. When i drove to NY and Ct a few years ago, I only took 10 round mags. flying back from NY, once you declare your weapon at check in, They will call over the Port authority police to check the weapon and verify your credentials. I had absolutely no problem, pretty good group of officers. Good luck.

Here is the narrative with the last revision on ammo:

Detail of the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act

        Read section e2:
"2)*includes ammunition not expressly prohibited by Federal law or subject to the provisions of the National Firearms Act;"

Your good to go with any ammo allowed by federal law, state or local law superseded by the act.

Magazines is a toss up. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I may just take my M&P Shield with 8 round mag. It will solve any possible magazine headache. I have not decided if I actually going to take my pistol or not. I will be flying in Jet Blue. Are they okay with firearms in the luggage?

It took a while to check in my pistol at the JFK. But, I am finally home. It was not that bad to take my firearm.
