    Aflac Insurance

Any LEO's here use Aflac insurance? What was the experience like in terms of coverage, payout etc? We have a rep that visits our station pretty regularly after briefing but I never paid too much attention.

If you're using another type of insurance to for off duty coverage, I'd be interested in hearing about it as well.

    Thanks!

My agency offers it and a lot of us like it. Example, one of the guys I work with, his wife was diagnosed with cancer. He told me that AFLAC paid him out over $80K. I have other guys that get injuries off duty and instead of burning their comp, sick leave, vacation it covers a sizeable portion of it including hospital visits etc. I have it and have yet to use it, but they pay everything retroactively as well. So I just have to send in all the info that I have from injuries I received on and off duty and they will send me a check. IN my opinion it is worth the $45 a pay period.

I retired from FD 3 years ago but back then the coverage for on duty injuries was expensive. $300/month or so. The IOD policies were from going back a long way. AFFLAC eventually had to raise their prices to newer customers. There is also Combined Insurance and another called Continental or Colonial. I used combined and was able to keep stay at 100% pay after I started running out of time. I raced with this group and nearly all had some coverage.

My wife and I had while we were still on the job (her = LEO, me = Fire.) We used it a handful of times and they always paid quickly. She was qualifying once with her rifle and a case flew in her collar and landed on the back of her neck. She ended up with a dime size scar and Aflac sent her a nice check since it was considered a disfigurement.

I have nothing but good to say about AFLAC. I've had it since 1988, when a Fresno deputy (who I got to know well), working part time for AFLAC, visited all of the dept. units. In 1991, I had my first back surgery and was in ICU for 24hrs. AFLAC paid me for the period I was there.

I also have the 7 deadly diseases plan. One day in 2008, my wife called to make a payment and the lady advised her afterwards that we would be receiving a check for the full amount of our premiums over the last 20yrs. She said this was because I hadn't made a claim for that plan over those 20yrs. If I knew about that, I certainly didn't recall it, so it was a fantastic piece of news. I'm hoping in 2028, I will get a similar check. If I do, that will be good on 3 levels: 1. I'll receive a check for $4000 again, 2. I will not have fallen ill with any of the listed conditions in the plan and 3. I'll still be alive.

          ETA:

but they pay everything retroactively as well.
Check with them on this as there is a time limit on how far back they will do this unless this changed. The claim period wasl only be a year retroactively when I purchased the plan.

I have AFLAC and have used it a quite a few times. My AFLAC rep is great and she knows the program extremely well. I've never had a problem with them and they've always paid quickly. I'd rate them A+ for customer service. If you need an AFLAC agent and live in Southern California, let me know. I'll forward her name and info over to you.

I got Aflac as an addition to my primary insurance through my association insurance plan. My wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. $735,000 later she survived and has been cancer free for 22 years. Aflac was a great help with day to day expenses. Bottom line - the whole bill was covered.

I have it. I love it. Get the accident coverage. That's all you need to know.

Fantastic news about your wife, AFLAC aside.

Thank you "Retired". It was a horrible journey. But in the end, my brother association members gave 100+ hours of there comp/vacation time to make it possible for me to be by her side.
                    Thank you

Can you explain further? I was mainly looking at the Disability Coverage.
