Pulled over by LAPD

I was on way to airport to pik someone up and was pulled over In Van Nuys bi lapd at 9 pm. I had paid the fees to my explorer but had not smogged. They asked for registration and d/l. As I pulled over I rolled windows down and turned on interior lights . His partner and I chatted for couple minutes and the officer came back and asked if I used any other names or addresses and I responded no been at same address for 20 years and that has been my name since birth. He informed me there is a felony warrant out for individual with name but different middle name. His is Jack Daniel xxxxxx I said not me must be a redneck with that name I'm a yankee. He laughed handed me my docs and said get it taken care of and we all drove off. Very pleasant officers, professional did not roust me at all. Good experience oberall.

That is how a typical stop would go when I was working. Cooperative citizens did not get tickets from me. Sounds like the officer's that stopped you were professional.

I was not much a ticket writer. Sometimes I went the whole week without writing a ticket. But, one day in my patrol time, I turned in 15 tickets in one shift. That was a weird day.

My thing was smoking tail pipe and cigarette butts thrown out of window. No mercy on that...No exceptions..

The only time I usually broke out the cite book was for 12500 and 14600, and that was because the vehicle was being towed. I worked the hood though, so I rarely interacted with normal citizens. Border Patrol was often called to take the driver and occupants as well. I have heard things have changed regarding the use of BP though.

You just reminded me of the first citation I ever received. I was 16 and my first car was a piece of junk with a rusted out muffler. Sometimes it would backfire when I let off the gas.

I was giving one of my friends a ride home from school one day and downshifted as I rounded a corner. The car backfired, and I got pulled over by Simi Valley PD. The officer was laughing as he walked up, held up his hands about 3 feet apart and said, "This thing just shot a flame about this long out of the tailpipe!"

I got it fixed and signed off, but I kept that ticket for a long time. I thought it was cool the description of the violation was "Exhaust produces flame".

Damn kids.

Like everyone, cops are individuals. Nice & not nice.

Not nice: I was waiting at a red light. Freeway off ramp on my right. I noticed an ambulance waiting at the bottom of the off ramp without lights or siren. When the light turned green, I started through the intersection. When I was 3/4 through the intersection, the ambulance turned on lights & siren. I pulled over & stopped. CHP officer immediately pulled me over, saying I didn't yield to an emergency vehicle. I asked him if he saw that I was almost through the intersection when the lights & siren came on. He said, "I don't think so" & wrote me a ticket. As I signed it, I said, "You must be very desperate to write a ticket."

Nice: I drove my parents to Las Vegas. I was looking for a certain casino they liked downtown. It was late & I was tired - just drove 300 miles. I turned down an empty street, then noticed it was a one-way street when I saw cars parked pointing in the same direction. (no "One-Way Street" sign). While I was looking for a place to turn around, two officers on bicycles (frantically pedaling) pulled up beside me & said "Pull over." One officer asked, "How are you doing tonight?" I said, "Well, I was doing fine until I realized that was a one-way street." After checking my license & registration, he said, "OK, just be careful." I said, "Thank you."

At my station our local PD is still handing us tons of aliens identified through traffic stops. Most days we get at least one group handed over to us. It helps that most of the officers grew up in the area and can easily pick an alien out of a crowd.

Well, that is good news. We always had a good relationship with BP, and they usually had a couple cars in the city I worked.

Gates was a good Chief. Gotta be PC nowadays though...
