    SBR in CA for LEO's

I searched first and didn't see any recent info.

Can full time peace officers buy an "assault weapon" with letterhead like normal and then send appropriate forms and fees to the Feds for a SBR stamp and the mount a short barrel upper to their registered AW? Note: the rifle would be carried on duty in accordance with department policy.

You cannot buy it but your department should be able to I think.

What you're proposing is technically possible, but practically impossible.

In addition to your proposed actions, you would also need to obtain a permit from DOJ in order for you to possess it when off duty. Please refer to Penal Code section 33300 for the details. As far as I know, DOJ has not issued any PC33300 to individual officers.

You can possess an SBR while on duty, and if you have completed a POST SBR training course. Please refer to Penal Code section 33220. In reading that section, it may be technically possible for you to own the SBR provided that your employer retains it when you are off-duty, but I can't imagine any chief of police authorizing that.

If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.
