Glock 40 to 9mm conversion kit

I saw a conversion kit that would allow me to change my glock 22 in .40 to shoot 9mm. Has anyone tried this, and if so, is the gun still reliable? I would be using it as my primary duty gun.

I have never shot a Glock before being issued the gen 4 model 22. I had been using a Sig 226 for the past 14yrs in 40 cal on patrol and on SWAT with no issue. But since I lateraled to a new dept I picked the Glock 22 in 40 without knowing the drawbacks to this particular model. I just can't seem to overcome a weak one handed grip which causes the gun to malfunction and the reason I am considering the conversion.

What's policy say on a conversion? By the time all is said and done you'd probably be spending about the same as you would to purchase a new 9 without having to do any conversion to agency equipment, that may not solve the problem your having.

There are conversion barrels out there, but what does the kit include? To make the gun run reliably with 9mm you will need to replace the ejector and extractor with those from a Glock 17. Conversely, with a mere barrel swap to a Glock 31 factory barrel, you can shoot .357 sig. You can even use the same magazines.

I bought a 40-9 barrel for my Glock 23 last year. It has been totally reliable, as long as you use 9mm mags with it. Total cost for the barrel was $99.00.

I need to test it at my office tomorrow. I will see how it works. I will try to shoot after switching slides/barrels between Glock 17 and 22.

Check your dept policy first. If you can use a different duty gun, just buy a different gun, don't convert.

First though, you should work on your grip. The high bore axis of the sig flips a lot in support hand only, I would say more than the Glock. Try to work with a good coach to correct the issue with your support hand grip.

Come on old swat dog, hang onto that gun!

We send our guys to LASO academy with a Gen 3 G22, and throw in a conversion barrel for 9mm. No issues. But I would suggest buying a dedicated 9mm to lessen the possibility of reliability issues.

I switched a couple years ago after having issues with my x300 attached. Have since switched from to the M&P with a tarantactical mag extension (23+1 :-D) and love it.

Here is what I found today when I experimented with a Glock pistol:

                1. Using Glock 19 9mm barrel on Glock 23 frame and slide with 40 cal magazine: It functions okay, but live round stove pipes occasionally due to wider magazine lip dimension.

                2. Using Glock 19 barrel on Glock 23 frame and slide with 9mm magazine: Functions flawlessly.

Glock 23 barrel won't fit in a Glock 19 slide.

i have been told, that when using a caliber converting barrel - don't be surprised if reliability is in question. Simple fact that the .40 cal pistols were engineered to shoot .40 - and not 9. This in mind, conversion barrels are convenient for a number of reasons and I do notice an issue or two from time to time when using one. I have found using match conversion barrels and premium Ammo lessens my pipes, etc.

That said, a conversion barrel for use on your primary duty weapon is brave. The cost of a quality barrel and mags are already half the cost of a blue label 17.

If you can, snag up a G17...
I know people have done conversions...but for a primary duty gun... I'd like a factory chamber caliber rather than a conversion, etc.
