I see maaaybe somewhere around two dozen a year. I am sure a few more "slip" by me; but if I knew how many did that I wouldn't let them slip by LOL.

I like to be notified (assuming I have any kind of interaction with that person beyond saying "hello" or just asking about the latest rocket launch or something) and I do the same when off-duty and contacted by law enforcement (which has happened once or twice in my life..). I think the simplest way to do it is if asked for ID to hand over CCW permit with ID or simply say something like "I have my CCW permit and I am carrying" or something similar if I haven't gotten to your ID yet.

A good rule of thumb is if I am already asking for your ID or will be soon that would likely mean our interaction is an "official contact."

This is the same as what my IA expects of me. Thank you for confirming.

I always let them know. I have been pulled over 3 times in the last 16 years and each time I have said to the officer, I apologize for committing the infraction (I admit guilt to my error so he has me if he wants), notify him of my off duty carry and where it is, ask permission to reach for my ID when he asks me for it.

This has always made the stop safe and relaxing for the officer.

I've seen it three times in 4 years and our county gives them out like they are going out of style. I'm sure a few slipped past me. I figure if your going to kill me your probably not going to tell me your a licensed ccw holder and are armed. I dont really care. Dont pull it out and there wont be an issue. I did arrest one on his way to hill his wife with a ball of meth. He didnt have it long afterwards.

what is upsetting, is the amount of ccw people that have posted on calguns, that feel that they will not disclose they have a firearm at all. only when they are about to be searched, do they admit that they will disclose. i have a ccw, and i agree that the first thing out of my mouth upon leo contact, is that i have a ccw, and have both my hands on the steering wheel. there is absolutely no excuse to not inform any leo upon contact.

During my 26 years as an active LEO I never encountered a CCW holder, although I did encounter a few bad guys that were CCW illegally. Now retired, I have been contacted once or twice by by on duty LEOs and each time the first thing I did was state that I was a retired LEO and was carrying a weapon. It is a courtesy I would expect from anyone who was legally CCW.

my neighbor informed the officer he was carrying legal with a ccw when he was stopped while pulling in to get gas for a headlight being out. the officer ask were it is and and my neighbor told him in my holster ( itwb at 4 0clock) the officer pulled it out of the holster and put it in the glove box of my neighbors truck. his glove box was full of papers and a couple tools so now he has a nice deep scratch on the slide of his glock. once in the glove box the officer told him to get it fixed and left. I have been stopped for no seatbelt and i just give lic and reg. and keep quite about ccw permit. I dont need an officer trying to pull my weapon from my holster and accidentally shooting me in the ***

In a little over 3 years in patrol (I know thats not much) I've run across two. Both were very polite and notified me right away. In both cases i ended up talking to the CCW holder about guns at length and laughing and having a good time. In fact, we ended up giving each other tips and tricks about carrying, as well as talking about the pros and cons of carrying certain guns.
