Firearm Storage

Long story short - I am away at college, my guns are at home. I have a plethora of places to shoot up around my school, and I would like to bring my guns up here so I don't have to make the drive home every time I want to shoot.

Is it worth asking the local SO/PD if I can store my guns at their dept.? If I pay a storage fee?

Would Public Safety be better?

Police department will not store an individual's firearms, unless it is for safe keeping related to a crime or domestic issues. You may have to ask the school about the firearms policy, or find alternative means to store your firearms.

I have stored my firearm at a local police department for a short period of time when I went to Mexico or Canada. I stored my pistol with SDPD near the border when I went to Mexico, and also stored my pistol with Olympia, WA PD when I went to Canada for a few days.

When I lived in the dorms which didn't allow firearms the University PD allowed students to store their personal firearms at the police station. I stored a few guns with them and it was no problem. Made for some good conversations as well.

See if there is an indoor range that will store them for you. Some do for a small fee. Most LE agencies won't store guns, jewelry & etc anymore.

The school police is a good place to ask. I'm sure they have at least been asked this before.

You are better off renting a storage space off campus and storing your firearms there, renting an apartment off campus and having your guns with you, or find a girlfriend off campus and store at her place...Anywhere but a campus facility of course.

Go rent a storage locker and put a gun safe inside. Be semi-descreet about accessing them to and from. Don't store them on college property.

I hate to say this Target, but to me going to the local PD or campus PD is like the kid who built the suitcase clock. Perhaps I consider things different than most. And I am a far cry from saying that you should know the enforcement in your area, as gentlemen, not as detainer and detainee.

But just think about the right decisions here. Perhaps focus on school work and leave the bang bang as an added savory experience at your home range.
