PC 832 Questions/Tips

Good morning everyone.

I have a family member that is taking the PC832 firearms course soon and is fairly new to firearms. I was hoping that someone here could give me some insight on what kind of drills are run during the course so I can better train her.

Standard basic firearms course. Depending on what school, the final course of fire may be slightly different. At the minimum will have to:
3 yards, bent elbow, fire 6, reload, fire 6 more in 30 seconds
7 yards, standing position, fire 6, reload, fire 6 more in 30 seconds.
15 yards, standing position, fire 6, reload, fire 6 more in 45 seconds

You need to get 29 out of 36 on a standard B27 target.

that is the minimum course of fire. Depending on the school, they can make it harder than this minimum. Good luck.

832 Firearms is very basic and is essentially a beginner's crash course in firearms manipulation. The course was designed with the premise that the students know nothing about firearms.

Just get her accustomed to a semi-auto pistol nomenclature (likely Sig P series or Glock) with marksmanship at the distances already mentioned and she'll be fine.

Prior to starting my career, I took PC 832 at a local community college as a complete beginner. Students could bring their own semi-automatic in 9mm-.45 if they had one and the rest of us used Glock 17 loaners.

The course of fire was just as CaptMike described except I would add the additional information that 3yd and 7yds were not sighted. The string at 15yds is sighted. The course is very easy and everyone passed - even the complete noobs. The course also includes a great introduction to field stripping and cleaning the weapon.

If I were you, I wouldn't do much to prepare her other than taking her shooting a couple of times so she gets familiar with the feel of a semi-auto's action. Also, explaining sight alignment and sight picture might be a great help.

I took 832 firearms in Fresno back in May. They explained everything including expectations, explanations on guns, then we practiced shooting. Quals were pretty basic. Shooting from various distances. and just like captmike said, You need to get 29 out of 36 on a standard B27 target.

Which college is the family member taking the course at?

Take her to the local range and work basic firearm safety, (Cooper's laws) basic marksmanship (stance, grip, breathing, sight alignment, trigger control, sight picture, follow through), operations and nomenclature of the firearms, and malfunction clearances.

If she can get comfortable with the above, and deliver rounds into the B-27 7-ring or better at 15 yards, the PC832 course should not be a big issue.

Some schools have the range cadre provide the firearms for the training/exam so I would recommend finding out what they use and training on a similar firearm.

I did it like 7 years ago. I don't remember what the course of fire was, but I remember it being super easy. I wouldn't sweat it.
