    STI 1911s

Anyone have any experience with STI 1911s? Any agencies authorizing them for duty carry? Seem to be popular in target competition circles, but looks like they are branching out into the LE/CCW market with the Duty One series. Proforce is also an STI dealer now

I am not a LEO. I just saw the thread title and yes, I have experience with an STI 1911 - I own one. I own the Spartan V (9mm) - I think recently discontinued actually. Fit and finish are awesome. I have had zero issues with mine, and I have upgraded many parts not out of need, but of want (rear sight, bushing comp, cut & flush crown, mainspring housing, GI guide rod + checkered end cap, hex grip screws). It has been very accurate, and even a buddy of mine who is a well known CCW teacher and shooting instructor commented on the feel, quality and shooting accuracy of the STI. I know they make some high end models in the 2011 line.

I am not LEO either, but I have a STI Ranger II in .45acp and really like it. fit is tight, but it is very slick and smooth to manipulate. It shoots great, very accurate and trigger and reset are good.

My agency is in a process of authorizing various 1911 models. I don't know what make and model will be authorized just yet. I will find out soon.

I heard the new Sheriff at LASD plans on authorizing the 1911. Don't know if it's rumor or not.

Heard the same rumor as well. Then I saw a bunch of top brass buying 1911s at a local law enforcement retailer.
It may be more than a rumor.

Also of note, Colt hosted an armorer's course specifically for the 1911 at LASD a few weeks ago....

So, which counties are authorizing use of the 1911? I think that's pretty sweet. --1911ShooterPhil

I have seen some SDPD officers carrying 1911's. I don't think I would want to carry one for a duty gun.
