    Sig P227 TacOps

I finally grabbed myself one of these. I was long debated about the P227 vs the FNX-45... But common sense overcame me.

With my P220 Elite Carry Stainless

As I was playing around with that stupid looking "shoe" thing on the bottom of the magazine, I learned that I could remove the internal (nubby plastic) floor plate from inside the magazine.... thus loading 15 rounds into the magazine... and the funny looking "shoe" thing would still lock the mag plate into place.

I read that the flat metal P229 floor plate can be used to replace this nubby plastic part. I let intrigue get the best of me and replaced the base plate without the floor plate inside. The magazine EASILY accepted a 15th round.

Since the internal floor plate was out, the base plate wouldn't lock onto the mag body.... I slipped the funny "shoe" looking thing back on and *PRESTO* the base plate was locked into place.

I have a few P226 mags that I'll try to dissect for parts. I'll see if the floor plate is necessary for reliable function. If the P229 or P226 floor plate works... I'm ditching this silly looking "shoe" thing. Maybe a Magpul SMG loop is in order. At the very least it'll protect the plastic a bit for my mag changes.

I haven't shot it with 15 rounds yet, but I didn't have to struggle to get the round in, so I assume it'll be fine. It did cycle just fine. I'll play around with it this weekend and see how reliable it is.

That really appears “ungainly” to me. I assume you can replace the extended grips with standard Sig 227 grips and then use the standard sig 227 10 round magazine. I really like my 227, and if I was still working, (love being retired) it would be my duty weapon. I remember when I got my 227, I was told that Sig did have extended magazines for it. Are the ones that came with your tac op the same ones that are available to use on the standard 227?

I think the standard Sig 227 with a flush fitting 10 round magazine and couple of the extended magazines would be a great duty set up.

Rub it in. I have 12 more years.

If I end up back in a cage car (motor unit now) I might go to a flush mag. But for now the "standard" mag is fine for me.

We wear external carriers now, so I have two mags that barely fit, on my chest. I also have a mag pouch on my SB... I may have bought a few spare mags while I was at Cabelas last week.

I qual with it in 3 weeks. I'll try to update with progress.
