When I leave California after retirement, it will be a one way trip anyway.

I feel the same way, in no small part, due to the draconian gun laws. It's too bad, California has some beautiful areas that I will miss.

I believe that you're quite mistaken here.

Large-capacity magazines remain completely legal for folks to possess under state law (acknowledging that a few local jurisdictions have made them illegal to possess).

Retired LEO's may lawfully retain any large-capacity magazines they received during their active service, and without regard to the January 1, 2000 date.

It is worth noting that even though the magazines may be lawfully possessed, they do remain subject to seizure as nuisance items.
Can you tell me where it says that a lawfully possessed hicap magazine is a nuisance item subject to seizure?

Penal Code section 32390. Here is the text:

Except as provided in Article 2 (commencing with Section 32400) of this chapter and in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, any large-capacity magazine is a nuisance and is subject to Section 18010.

Please note that none of the enumerated exceptions apply to a magazine that was simply lawfully possessed prior to 2000.

It is a rare occurance, but it is the law, and it can/does happen.

The "magazine nuisance" issue was discussed at lenght in this thread.

Posters magazines were confiscated as nuisance items because LE "thought" they were Hi-Cap. Even though they had been blocked to 10s.

I was recently informed by OP of that thread, that he eventually got his property back. But had to produce receipts, before they were released back to him.
