    Kern County Sheriff manhunt update

It's been a week now and they still haven't found the psychopath that kidnapped three young adults, murdered a retired dentist and then shot and wounded two Kern county deputies. The search continues in rugged terrain/Forrest/wilderness lands and in very hot temperatures. It's like the suspect is an evil "Johnny Rambo" out there in the bush.

The Kern county SO is really burning the candle at both ends with this and they're still on 12/12 shifts! I talked to their deputies at the scene and they are busting their tails searching for the mother ef-r. They won't stop until they get this guy. I pray for their safety and that the suspect gets ...."stopped."

Yep... They're on day #11 and our friend is still on 12s... Her husband who is CHP isn't getting much sleep between his work and their 1 and 2 year olds... Hope everyone stays safe and it's good to see the agencies working together...

That's a terrible area to be having an outdoor manhunt in. What I don't understand (and simply because I wasn't there and don't know exactly what was going on) was how the bad guy shot several deputies and then bolted. Was there no other backup available to assist prior to making entry? Was there no perimeter set up?

The deputies were ambushed inside a trailer that was several miles away from the original crime scene. Yes there was also a perimeter on the location while the deps made entry. If someone is hell bent on killing another person, there's nothing anyone can do about it really. A bad guy lying in wait and merely pulling a trigger can wreck all kinds of havoc on his victims, before he can be stopped or quickly escapes in the pandemonium that ensues immediately thereafter.

Obviously the perimeter was not well supported because knucklehead got out of it after shooting two deputies. There may have been no better option due to terrain/manpower/lack of air support/etc and I am fully aware that sometimes in this job we have to just roll with what we have at hand instead of what we SHOULD have. That being said, I stand by my original concerns that searching an area for such a dangerous subject while having poor containment is a poor idea. Its not like the trailer was some giant 500,000 square foot multi-level warehouse surrounded by shipping trailers or something. Good luck to them.

I really wonder what the true cost of this manhunt will be when they eventually get him or they give up. It already has to be in the multi millions.

It's crazy the chaos one man with a rifle can cause. Could you imagine if multiple skilled people went off the rails. The resources would be spread so thin they would be almost useless.

During the shoot-out, he was armed with a handgun, possibly two. No rifles used (yet) by the suspect.

They've identified the guy now finally. The Bakersfield local news plastered his picture all over the TV last night.

The Dorner manhunt was around half a million in extra costs. I'm sure this won't be cheap, but I'm not sure if it will be as much as you think.

I sincerely hope the two injured deputies recover fully, with no lasting disabilities.

The one deputy that was shot through both arms will survive, but they said he probably will retire on a medical. His arms are jacked up.
