45+ miles. Can't remember the time it took, 1/2 hour, 45 minutes? Seemed quick, and forever, all at the same time. Anyways, it involved six agencies as it crossed two county lines. Precursor - I had the suspect about week before laying down in the back of the vehicle at a grocery store. My Sgt and the City Sgt did not want to take the guy down right there for fear of a gun fight. I even volunteered to pull of my uni top and vest and go strolling buy, then pop a window and stick a gun on him, but no dice. So dude gets a free pass and we get to watch his buddy drive away with him laying down in the back of the car (UC's were watching him and alerted us to him being there. They were pissed we didn't snatch him up.)

The following week, dude goes tooling right past me in the same car, except this time he is driving. He had multiple warrants for 245/211, etc. I flip around. Get everyone situated, felony stop, he bolts. Goes into adjoining county on the east, comes back into my county, then heads north to the next county. We have three counties, two cities, and CHP represented. Finally, Mr. Douchenozzle TC's at a reservoir dam. For his efforts, he gets stuck by me, bit by the dog, and my sergeant broke his foot off in dudes azz for scaring the shizz out of him a couple of times while I/we were chasing him.

l've been in two other pursuits which were as equally hairball (100+ mph into an orchard in the middle of the night?), but not as long.

Sounds like typical brass stupidity... why not take a guy down when you have him boxed in somewhere due to possible use of force type scenario, oh no... let him leave only to have a crazy pursuit/use of force anyway that could have hurt alot more people. Only the geniuses get promoted...

After Rodney, things changed. The amount of units in a pursuit, the violation that the suspect is wanted for, Supervisors discontinuing pursuits.

List your longest vehicular pursuit, (time and/or distance) and want on the suspect . Then tell us (in your opinion) if that same pursuit would have been approved to continue today.

          This should be interesting.

The Supervisor thought I was being purposely inaccurate calling out highway speed between 50 and 55mph...lol

          Sentenced: 24 months(1st offense)

Btw, I had 3 Agencies assisting, (that's back when everyone would lend a hand).

Out in the middle of nowhere, taking down 211 suspects. 1 LEO Jumping off ATV and taking down the driver - Then the other Jumping off an ATV Taking down 2 running for the Border??? !!!! WTF! Only thing missing was the popcorn while watching this!

This doesn't really count since I'm not a LEO. But my dad was and I was good friends with the CHP mechanics. I used to buy almost brand new tires that had been run in the pursuit cars for maybe a few weeks for $15.00 a set.

They also got me lots of cool performance parts for my Newport off of pursuit vehicles that were being retired. The CrossRam intake was the coolest.

Spent many a weekend at the CHP garage twisting a wrench with the CHP mechanics.

I remember in the 70's they chased a vette from IIRC Burbank all the way to San Diego before it crashed into a field. Lost one chase vehicle which lost control and hot a light pole. Almost instantaneously burst into flames. Miracle both officers climbed out of it with minor injuries. After that was when I started hearing discussions about risk/reward of pursuits. I think right about then was also when they invented the spike strips.

Yup, I don't think anyone can top that one.

My one and only pursuit was about 6 mins. Luckily Angel and CHP took over the pursuit and it went another 45 mins to an hour through several counties. Speeds were 155+.......want was commercial burglary.........got tuned up big time for speed. Unfortunately our agency is going to way of canceling all pursuits for liability reasons.........pretty soon we won't even be able to drive cars because theres too much liability.........

My only one was a strong arm 211pc. Two juvies knocked over an elderly lady and stole her purse in Rowland Heights in LA County. I was way south of the location, but went to our intercept position in case the vehicle rolled by. I had done this probably 10 times before with no success, but within 10 seconds, the car drove by.

Pursuit went into S. Bernardino Cty and onto surface streets. Drove thru Chino and I picked up multiple assisting units from there. Returned to the fwy and the suspects ended up driving into a courthouse parking lot in Riverside County and crashing into a cement base for a light. A third juvie popped up from the back seat and the foot chase was on. The Chino officer caught the guy who ran a short way and I got to chase the one who ran the farthest. Caught him trying to bust into an upstairs apt. Got him on the ground at gunpoint and S. Bernardino chopper landed so the observer could assist me in cuffing.

The third juvie caught by a CHP officer who saw him come out of his hiding place. When the kid ran, he told him over the PA he would let the dog loose, so the kid stopped. As the officer returned the cuffed kid to his unit, he asked the officer where the dog was and was told CHP didn't have dogs (They didn't then).

My field sgt. told me later he was getting ready to 10-22 it as I was getting out of radio range.

                          Speeds: 80+
                          Distance: Probably 25-30 miles
                          Time: 30 minutes I think.

Still doesn't top SSDAVE56 pursuit. He is the winner.

30+ miles of a 215 suspect speeds topped out at 130. Got him into custody after he crashed and foot bailed.
