    What to do????

I am an an EX-LEO with a clean history if not exemplary background. Can I carry CCW or is there some requirement or am I missing something???. I went went through the academy again to refresh my POST. I went out on a medical--serious injuries--life threatening injuries.

Am I allowed to carry or not or do I have to do something different??? My LEO friends say I am cool to carry. Is this true?

    Thanks,

    Brian

They should have given you a medical retired ID which should state you can carry under the current leosa code

Brian, you can't just be an "Ex-LEO", you have to be a Retired LEO for the CCW Endorsement on your Retired Officer ID Card.

If you are retired, you have to petition your agency for the ID card and the CCW endorsement.

Under leosa, if you worked a total of 10 years as a sworn leo or if you were officially medically retired for an on duty injury, then you qualify to carry under leosa. The medical retirement should have guven uou a retired id. If you separated with more than 10 years, it may be difficult to get an id from your old department that proves it. There is a leosa wiki, read it for all the details and rules for qualifications. if you were not medically retired and worked less than 10 years then you are not covered to carry under leosa. Good luck.

Sounds legit. If you get stopped, just tell the officer that your LEO friends said it was cool.

It is important to know where you retired from.

PC 26300 requires you to meet the definition of a Peace Officer. If you didn't retire from a CA specific agency as a Peace Officer, you're not recognized as a Peace Officer so carrying under PC 26300 would not apply to you. Keep in mind that this option only allows you to carry in CA.

If this is the situation, then LEOSA would be your best bet, however the details behind your medical retirement may affect your ability to carry depending on what it was. This option allows you to carry throughout the US, but has it's own gray areas.

Both options require Retired LE IDs and each have their own conditions for qualifications.

            GL and stay safe.
