    LEO Bullet Button Exemption

    Hello all,

My dad works for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and after 20+ years is just now developing an interest in firearms.

He currently only owns a Sig p226 and a Remington 870(I bought for him). He wants to get into AR building but does not like the bullet button.

I have not been able to find out if there are any exemptions that may apply to my dad and ask for help.

Please let me know where I can find exemptions to the ridiculous laws that may apply to those employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

    Thank you

Only if it's a duty weapon, all of CA gun laws apply to him as a civilian outside of work, i'm not 100% sure but someone will chime in shortly.

If its for use as a duty weapon no. If its not used for duty but just a personal rifle then yes BB needed if going with evil features.

It's important to know just exactly what he and you are asking for.

The 'bullet button' is not a legal requirement.

NOT having an 'assault weapon', however, is a requirement of California law.

One way to avoid having an 'assault weapon' yet keep things ('features') like folding or collapsible stock, pistol grip, flash hider is to have a centerfire semi-automatic rifle that cannot accept a 'detachable magazine'.

The 'bullet button' or other magazine locking device changes the weapon itself so it "cannot accept a 'detachable magazine'".

Please note that the ability to "accept a 'detachable magazine'" relies on a special legal definition. See the wiki article -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/No...able_magazines

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
