    CDCR lateral transfer to LAPD

Has anyone here transferred from California State Correctional Officer to Los Angeles Police Officer? Clearly there would be additional training needed but I wasn't sure if there is a transitional academy that LAPD offers.

You'll be going through a full academy.

Full academy. CDCR completes its training through Standards and Training for Corrections (STC). LAPD and all other local police, Sheriff Deps and State police complete their training under Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

You adult corrections officer training under STC does not translate to the POST Basic Academy. you will have to complete the 600+ hour post basic LAPD acedemy just as if you never completed an academy.

California Department of Corrections does provide Peace Officer Standards and Training for the Correctional Officers in their academy. I received a POST 832 certificate at graduation. Regardless, I dont have an issue doing the full academy for LAPD. Thanks for the input!

Ya u would go through full academy. However, you will have an edge compared to the other cadets/recruits IMO

No there is a "modified" lateral academy that is about 3 months long, it started a few years ago when they changed their FTO period to 6 months, however your "probation" will be a full 18 months. Unless its changed recently

Affirm, all corrections officers and juvenile corrections officers complete the 832 pc. That is only a 40 hour (plus 24hrs for firearms) post course that is the minimum standard to become a peace officer. To work in LAPD you have to complete the 600+ hour basic academy.

full academy. Just because your ID card says peace officer it is completely different training and expectations compared to the 830.1 peace officer status.

Academy is easy compared to the fto program though, that's where the real fun is had!

Even if you are pre service with a full california academy POST cert LAPD still makes you go through their academy. At least thats the way it was when I started 10 years ago

Make sure you have a few rolls of masking tape for the "ropes" on your uniform. You don't want the D.I.s to find them, unless of course you enjoy running or writing memos.
