Background packet info is typically shared with other agencies upon request. If you are applying to another agency, expect to be asked "what other agencies are/have you applied to?". The agencies will then share info.

Thank you for the input, what if I have not applied to any agencies but have only taken this PBA?

I don't understand your question. Could you please clarify? You originally asked if a "background investigator" would be able to pull up your answers on the PBA. If you haven't applied to any other agencies, what kind of background investigator do you expect to be pulling anything?

Just like mixicus said, it can be pulled up. Pretty much, any personal history statement you ever give to an agency can be requested and read by another agency. Even if you later apply to another agency and "forgot" to mention the LAPD PBA, they can still find out that you filled in a PBA somewhere else and ding you for lying ("forgetting") about it.

Pro tip: Any time you fill in a PHS/PBA/BI package/whatever, always be consistent. Save a copy of the first one and keep repeating that info on the other applications, being sure to update anytime new info comes in.

Thank you for the response BadKitty, it's much appreciated. On the LAPD website, it asks people who are interested in applying to fill out the preliminary bacgrkound app to see if the applicant qualifies before applying to LAPD. So it did state that "if I choose to continue, I would be permanently disquallified"

Therefore I never submitted an application into LAPD.

Just to double check and make sure, any agency would be able to dig up the PBA correct? I just wanted to make sure.

            Wait, what?

It sounds like you're saying that you registered an account, began filling out the PBA and, at some point during the questionnaire, one of the answers you marked flagged as a permanent DQ and warned you about that before you hit the final PBA "submit" button. Or, did you submit the PBA and receive the DQ results back after it was reviewed?

Yikes....I never applied to LAPD and I don't work there. So, I can't say for sure; but, I stand by what I said the first time -- any background questionnaire you submit can be requested and read by another agency. If you marked something down that came back as a permanent DQ, I would find that troubling......

AND...I've edited my post to add that just because you didn't go through with the app to LAPD, that doesn't mean you can get away with lying on future apps to other agencies....... :/

Thank you for your input, it did mention that it was a permanent disqualification for LAPD unfortunately after I hit submit. The disqualifying reason is something I did over 10 years ago during high school and for the record, no I'm not a convicted felon. I do not even have any misdemeanors. I'm actually a really great person but of course every says that about themselves right? haha

Tough break; but, whatever it was you did, you did. When I was applying around, I recall applications asking me if I had ever been DQ'd by any other agency and, if so, for what, why and which agency. So, you're probably going to encounter that question in the future and now you can't lie about it because LAPD has you on record (lying = always a huge no-no whether it's on record or not).

Other guys on here have commented that some other agencies (the feds?) may be more lenient on some things; but, without knowing what DQ'd you, it'd be hard to give you an honest appraisal.

                Good luck to you.

Well, I have technically not been disqualified by any agencies since I have not continued my application. But yes, I will definitely be truthful as I don't see a point in lying my way through. Thank you for the information.

                    Drift,

Become a EMT/Firefighter. I'll tell you there's nothing more exciting than running code-3 with a patient on a EKG monitor, IV drip system and a ventilator in the back of the ambulance.

Or meeting a Life Flight Helicopter for a critical patient. Good stuff.

Firefighters have background investigations as well.

I thought about becoming a paramedic, but I would really like to get into a different type of work. I have made up my mind and will trying to apply to some federal jobs.

They will have that printed out during your background interview. Have it corrected then. No biggie

What if a person applied to a couple local and county agencies several years ago and was denied. If we waited five to seven years before applying to different agencies in the same state, would the agencies we apply to now still be able to see our background packet from the others agencies from that long ago?
