Are you hired now, or putting yourself through? If you have been hired, you really need to inform your agency before they find out. Honesty is always the best policy. If your upfront about it, and your story matches the former employer probably not a big deal, if there are significant differences between their side and your's it may be a problem.

I was recently fired from my job because "I left home early from work" "leave home early" .

Please notice the above phrases I've pulled from your post. I'm not sure if this is a cultural or language issue, but those phrases don't make sense at all. In fact they convey the exact opposite of what I suspect you're actually trying to say.

I think you're trying to say that you "left work early" or "left FOR home, early from work." The way you say it makes it sound like you're leaving your home...it took me reading through your post 2x to make me realize that you were leaving work early, not leaving your home early.

Not trying to nitpick, just trying to help you understand how other people see the way you say things. Best of luck in pursuing your career.

I am putting myself through the academy and when I applied for CDCR, I answered that I had been fired in the last year.

Wait, I'm confused. A few posts ago you said, "I start the academy in June..." Are you starting a CDCR academy in June? If so, then your answer to P5Ret is not correct. CDCR pays it's Cadets a salary, plus provide room and board at their academy. Therefore, you are hired and are not putting yourself through academy.


Or are you saying that you're putting yourself through a peace officer academy (at, say, a community college) and also happen to be applying to CDCR at the same time but haven't been hired yet. In that case, you need to tell your CDCR BI what has happened. Lying and/or leaving out information is a big no-no.


When you say that you applied for CDCR and put down that you had been fired in the last year, are you talking about the same incident or is this is the second time you have been terminated from employment since you applied?


Also, just as a friendly word of advice, I agree with Sleighter. As an LEO, you will need to write many, many reports. Writing unclear and grammatically incorrect statements will not only reflect poorly on you as an officer; but, it will come back to bite you in the behind. When I write incident reports, I am very careful with how I choose to word things. I do so knowing that, if I am called into court, I will need to explain and defend my report. I don't want to face an attorney who is grilling me on the witness stand saying, "You just said to the court ABC, but on your report you wrote XYZ. So, Officer BadKitty, which is it?" All academies include classes on report writing; so, you'll get some instruction on that. But, in the meantime, understand that learning to write clearly now will only help you.

To the Op,

Just for clarification it sounded like you asked to leave early the next day for something regarding your last semester? Wouldn't you have known you needed the time off in advance enough to give notice to your former employer?

Another note to add is that sometimes in law enforcement you don't get the luxury of "hey I need to go home early" so tough luck boss someone called out sick. If your the type that doesn't step up I'd rather not have you around(especially if you didn't give the boss an advanced heads-up weeks earlier). Sorry if that sounds harsh, but without more clarification to your story that's what I got out of it.

I'm sure there are a lot of variables that will go into if this incident effects your hire ability. If you are trying to get on with the CDCR, I'm sure they'll have an investigator look at all of your work history, schooling, credit, etc. Along with your interviews I'm sure it will be the totality of who you are, not this specific instance.

I applied for CDCR, but I am paying a regular academy out of pocket.

I explained to my supervisor last semester, that my upcoming semester would be busy and gave her a copy of all my upcoming midterms and finals.....

I probably would have done the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it if all is as you say it is. Especially if you have copies of the schedule you gave/worked out with your boss.
