Radios had knobs to change frequencies. Dept issued saps. The end of every pursuit ended with a hospital visit.

Polaroids for crime scene photos. I bought a polaroid before the digital camera phase. Not THAT long ago.

        No HT's at all.

Checking out a lever action Winchester 30-30 from the armory to throw in the trunk.

        1972 Ford LTD's as a patrol car.

When the Sergeant gave you a couple dimes at briefing and said if you have any questions find a payphone and call me at the desk.

A word processing typewriter was all the rage!
          They gave, so we have.

NO handheld radio, so, I had to have a outside speaker on for the radio when I leave the radio car.

No GPS or cell phones, just Thomas Guides. Paper logs. Revolvers. Shooting a dog was a short form memo. No computers, just good Ol' fashioned police work got the bad guy in the back seat and on his way to jail. Cops had thick skin. Trainees were humble. V-8 Caprices. Booking took 20-30 minutes. Reports were hand written (In a moving car while on training). Trainees never ate.

                      Ohhhh the good Ol' days
Knives don't stab people, cars don't drive drunk, eating utensils don't make you fat and pencils don't mis-spell words.

Ash trays built into the desks in the briefing room, which was filled with smoke and men wearing pork chop sideburns and black cowboy boots under their leg iron. Loud debates over .38's vs .357 versus .45 automatics and Black Hills ammo vs silver Tips....

                          SAPS

Actual saps carried and used. When I went through the academy they actualy taught you how to use them. Beaver tails, palm sap, sap gloves, Gonzales, 245 & 187 models.
                          Kel lights.
Now I think only the LA county Sheriff still carries

The Rover was literally the size of a brick and just as sturdy.
Sap pocket actually had a sap in it.
Shotgun rack laid horizontally on the floor.
No cage in the car, you actually had to sit in the backseat with the suspect.
Suspects took their lumps like men.
Every Use of Force wasn't followed by weeks of demonstrations.
