You get used to it to a point and learn to balance the weight out some. Thank the electronic Gods that radio's have gotten smaller and lighter, that damn thing was always in the way and damn near the heaviest piece of equipment I carried.

        You retire with back problems.

My belt is just shy of 30 lbs

Not an LEO but suspenders are great. I know they aren't fashionable but you can wear them under a shirt. There is even a tuckable version out there called the "ccw comfort sling".
I prefer Perry type suspenders as they hook to your belt and not your pants.

Tactical tailor suspenders and chest rig or outer vest

You can really only "deal" with it. The best way to handle it is to get some cush plain clothes gig and not wear a belt/vest!

Red vines has it. Proper form deadlifts will keep you healthy.

Seems like I get a new, bigger, heavier, and less functional radio every 2 years.

I know lots of carpenters who retired with back issues due to the fact that they were wearing a carpenters belt.

and they did not have to wear it 8 hours a day like most LEOs.

and I don't think the radio technology is really that heavy it's always been about the battery source.

even when they develop lighter batteries, I think that they will be focused primarily on giving them longer power charges over the weight issue.

For anyone looking for recommendations for work suspenders while wearing a suit or plainclothes, I can't recommend Perry's suspenders enough. They have online sales from time to time.

Only wearing my belt for 8 hours sounds like a dream! We're on 12.5's....My belt/vest/boots weigh about 40lbs. I weigh 150. It sucks.

You get used to it, I don't even think about it until I take it off at EOW.
Also, you must stay in shape.

Some departments are fortunate enough to get to wear the tac vests. They have not yet been approved for my department however I have heard from friends that they do wonders in distributing the weight

Nothing on my belt was a junk. I had size 30 waist and I was envious of guys with bigger belt because they can fit more things on it.
