    My Daughter

She is in another state to have a final interview this week, and she was finally accepted to become a corrections officer for that state. I wished she stayed in California to work in a forensic field like me, but she wants to be near her boyfriend. Salary is not that good compared to California, but I could not convince her otherwise.

Oh, well, at least she has a job now. Maybe she can come back to California in couple of years and work for my agency.. I am hoping she works as a forensic specialist, since she has all the qualifications for my agency now.

She will come home on Sunday and will move on following Friday.

I just wish her the best of luck......

You don't seem very happy with her choice. As long as she's happy, healthy and what looks like to be a good career ahead of her she's doing better than most.

You are correct that I am not happy about it. Although, it is her choice. She has to sign a contract to stay for 3 years, or she has to reimburse the dept. the training fees.

Her boyfriend's future beyond the current school is not clear at this point, and that is what I am concerned about. If he goes to a professional school in another state, they will be separated again..

      Well, a father's things....

I've been in LE for 18 years and this is not the job I signed up for way back then. Things have gotten so bad with criminals rights and our lack of them. Don't mistake my rant as being unappreciative of my job, because I am, I'm just saying this field has changed. I have looked into other states (I was hired in Nebraska and family issues put the breaks on that an hour after) for a slower pace. Cost of living in California is astronomical and the higher pay doesn't make up for it. In Nebraska I took the job at $8 an hour less but my cost of living there was way lower. I looked at a friggin cool house for $80k that was just a bit better and bigger than my house at $225k. I would have been in better financial shape with take home pay than what I'm doing now. I get the separation aspect but she might be in a good financial place (minus the unemployed boyfriend) out there than here. Just something to think about.

Thank you.. This is her first real job. She did it all on her own. Hope she finishes the probation without a problem and move on to some specialized assignments.

Well, maybe after 16 weeks, when she graduates the academy.

Sounds like your Daughter did pretty much everything you hoped for. Smart, well educated, capable, independent,
self supporting, employed in her chosen field.
Congratulations, sounds like you have an awesome daughter. Having a daughter, I understand.
So perhaps some frequent flyer miles are in order.

16 weeks of POST academy. Hope she passes without an injury.

By the way, it is snowing here now.

She is a good girl with the brain in the right place.

She even bought me a dinner at Panda Express when she was 6, when I took her to a country concert.
