You state that you are moving back for a year. This makes it sound like your domicile will remain outside of California. Is this correct? If you do not become a California resident, you will not be able to purchase ammo in CA, so you wound need to bring whatever amounts you will need for the year.

Yep, you can bring in as much as you want.
You cannot buy it in cali, but is legal for you to bring for your use.

1,000,000 rounds! Only a person with machine guns would need that much ammo. Are you inviting him to shoot yours? Can I join you?

I was curious if the "border Check" coming into California would give me a hard time. As far as I know it's the only state that does a check. Only about 15 ammo cans in the back of my truck, lol.

Ever since about 2021, there has rarely been anyone at the border check. I don't remember the last time I had to stop there.
It is an ag check point, so even if you were coming back with ammo, they only care about "firewood" at this time of the year, but as mentioned, they don't man the place anymore.

Well, at 11 grams per cartridge, 1 000 000 rounds of 5.56 NATO would weigh over 12 tons. Could take a few trips!

At the border ag check in Truckee, they never asked about guns, ammo or drugs, just fruits and vegetables. There was a beat up pickup truck in front of us with big plastic bags of aluminum cans and that vehicle was pulled over.

When flying to Australia a few years ago, the only thing they asked at the airport was "did you bring any cigarettes into the country" 🙄

That makes sense - in AZ aluminum cans are just garbage. If someone asked me to take them off my hands, I'd be grateful.

I go back forth for work and there’s a sign saying it’s a felony to bring alm cans in commercially for returning for ca redemption value.

ca charges a fee for anything in cans and you can get that back at a recycler. So they don’t want us bringing cans from az to turn in for ca value I guess.

just wonder how that works if going to a private recycler

Update: Drove through from Arizona (coming from 40 Westbound). Guy asked if we had any fruits or veggies. About 15 seconds and we entered Cali.
