Any Lexington KY expats? My daughter and I are down for a horse event, and it's beautiful country. Drivers are a bit manic though. Overall, my first impression is good. Local and state politics and other desirability metrics would have to be researched w/o someone in tune to how it really is. There are definitely many land and farm properties up for sale in the vicinity, and depending on your needs, quite reasonable if you're coming from a high RE value area. Bourbon trail, much history, and if you like horses, much equestrian activities. Looks like we'll be saving money for a return trip in two years.

Well I just closed on a place in Mount Sterling , Ky ( about 30 mins east of Lexington)

I'm also in Cynthiana Ky.
Got into IDPA at Bluegrass Sportsman Club just south of Lexington. Also Anderson County Sportsman Club just west of Lexington holds some shooting events.Comment

We'll have to meet up for coffee or something. Ammerman Arms holds Ultimate Benchrest matches during the nicer weather, on Charlie's place north of town. I may start getting into that and just use some of my long range guns. I'm waiting for the shooting season to start and will probably go out and watch one just to see what equipment everyone uses. Well I am getting REALLY close to closing out the CA house and the final moving pod. House and yard remodel have finally finished and just paint touch up from all the contractors along with finishing loading up the last of the stuff into the pod before I can start the drive east.Limit politicians to two terms. I'll copy this here for those that are in Kentucky and have an interest.
I also posted this in the non resident CCW section of Calguns
I'll offer my experience in getting my KY CCW
So for starters the Kentucky website for CCW information is here
The short of it is you take a course ( or if you already have taken a course in the past from somewhere ) and apply online
Cost is $70 for the online application ( $60 if you go down to the sheriff office but it takes longer to process that way)
I applied on July 27 and got my temp paperwork about Aug 23 with a note that my permit would be ready for pick up at the sheriffs office after Sept 3 ( I didn't pick mine up until Sept 10 since I was traveling)
Now the down side is Kentucky only issues to residents or military personnel. All of the details are in the link above.

There is this thing called "Court Days" here in Mt Sterling and in an area just East of me in Preston that is starting next week and I gather from the talk is one GIANT flea market / Bazaar. Where anything and everything is being sold and yes there are suppose to be guns on some tables. At least two people have talked to me about the one in Preston and the "AMMO truck". It is supposed to have unobtainable and seldom seen ammo. Well I am going to see what all the fuss is about.
