That's excellent advice ... and thank you so much for sharing!

Would you mind sharing the state and town you have chosen to settle in?

Selecting Idaho and the Coeur d'Alene area was easy. First, my cousin, who ran a business in LA, had a home in Coeur d'Alene and another in La Quinta. He convinced my brother to move from Mancos, CO to Post Falls, ID. Then my son moved to Hayden, ID. After my father and my wife's parents passed, her sister was the only relative living relatively close. We were living in Chico, CA when the CAMP fire occurred. This made housing prices in Chico jump. So, we started looking for a new home in the CDA area. We considered Eastern Washington, because of no personal income tax. But they make up for it with higher property and sales taxes. Idaho seemed like the best compromise, and, of course, Idaho has some of the best, if not the best 2A laws. The CDA area also had all of the stores that we had in Chico. And, Idaho is a super red state! While winters are colder, summers are much cooler than in Chico. Electric power is also much less that what PG&E charges.
Thank you for sharing your story with so many details. It is very much appreciated!

Does any CA expatriate who has settled in Texas or Wyoming have some good things to say about those states?

Hayden, ID., which is boarders Coeur d'Alene on the north. The previous version of Calguns software use to so my location. My wife and I chose Hayden because that is where we found a lot in the Coeur d'Alene area that was suitable to build our new home. Our original thought was just to buy a new home, but when we found a model that we liked, the builder did not have any lots where it would build that model. My cousin was a very good friend with a different builder who agreed to act as our contractor. This allowed me to modify the original plan we liked to better suit our desires. In looking for a home, or a lot to build on, we had the advantage that my nephew's son-in-law is a real estate sales person who lives in Spirit Lake, which is relatively close, under 25 miles, to Coeur d'Alene. I wish you the best in finding a new home outside of CA. CA use to be a great state, but it has been ruined by the F*****g liberal (commie) politicians. Life is short, so get out now so that you can enjoy what time you have left in a free state!

Thank you! Yes, California used to be a great state, but it is no longer free. I have been working on getting out of here, hopefully soon!

These kind of posts bust me up.
LOL, California is still california no matter how you put it. Watch out for the boat of illegals that will beach themselves by where you nestle your feet hopefully they don't hit your feet.

As I read what you wrote, let me translate it for everyone.
as I continue to pay the state to wear my shackles, serve my masters, and support extreme left wing racist, anti-semite and bigoted ideology, I wish I could afford to own my california home on the beach and be a resident somewhere else. But for now, I will continue to pay for the slavery and support my masters lifestyles!

When I moved, I kept my home on the ocean in Pacific Grove (literally front row), but after not using it or having the desire to really come back, we ended up selling it and bought more houses in different states. Even though we are not retired, we are somewhat nomadic right now, and we only come back to Cali for family events.

It's really great for you to have been able to purchase houses in different states... I say this without a smidgeon of envy and find it truly and totally inspiring!

What would be, in your opinion, the best states and towns for a would be CA expatriate who loves firearms and traditional values and to be free from left-wing extremism, while abhorring isolation from the culture and refinements afforded by reasonably-sized metropolitan centers, to escape to?
I am sure you did plenty of research in planning your moves to your favorite locations... Would you care sharing some of it with us still here who are longing for freedom?

Nevada.......anywhere out of Reno or LV
Idaho.............so many great small towns and beautiful landscape.
I am helping some family move to Tennessee. I will be checking out. Another beautiful state.

Its hard to go wrong moving out of Cali, determine what is important to you.
One of my boxes to check was State income tax free. That means when you leave Cali depending on income that will be a 10% raise you get.
A side benefit to most no state income tax in a conservative state is the gun laws. NFA was unobtanium in Cali but now it is a whole new world.

Where ever you choose your quality of life will be greatly increased when you leave Cali

I can give you my opinion on where we relocated to, East Tennessee. We're in one of the counties around Knoxville (not Knox County, you don't want to be there) and it is all the things you mention. I don't know your financial situation, but there are all types of housing from the very upper end - Windriver, to retirement areas - Tellico Village to nice young family areas like Maryville and Sweetwater There is even a yuppie area- Farragut, although it is in Knox County. PM me if you want more info.

Carson City is a great pick. You can still go to Sacramento, Tahoe, fishing NorCal Lakes, Hunting Washoe County, BLM land, No State Income taxes, small clean conservative city.
Lots of Entertainment and Music acts at Reno and Tahoe.

Some links that may be useful to would-be California expatriates on this forum:

Idaho is a truly wonderful, great state. However, moving to a state with no income tax is also one of my boxes to check, and that's the only reason why Idaho is not currently at the top of my list. States I am considering at this point are Tennessee and Texas, with Wyoming and Nevada being a more distant 3rd and 4th.
