My Oro Valley Dave critter episode

Well, it would be if I had a dash cam.

About 5 pm I went through the Burger King drive-thru, and as I pulled out onto the road, the light turned yellow as I approached a major intersection, 3 lanes on each side. As I came to a stop, a fully grown muley doe came galloping through the intersection at warp muley speed. Down towards the shopping center, then I lost sight of her. This area is urban, it's not out in the sticks.

We've had them walk down our street pretty often. It is odd to see them in that environment.

A couple nights ago I hear my wife drive up and open the garage door, a few seconds latter my phone rings. It’s my wife yelling for me to come to the garage, she is parked in front of the open garage yelling and pointing. She says something really big jumped into the garage and is hiding under the storage racks and she’s not going in until I get it out. I grab a flashlight and shine it were she said it was, low and behold there is a giant toad looking back at me. Darn thing was as big as my hand, it was OD green in color. I coxed him out with a stick and pushed him out of the garage, by far the biggest toad I’ve ever seen here.

You don't usually see those things unless there's a monsoon rainstorm.

We have been having them regularly this week at the normal late afternoon early evening time.

I ID it as a Colorado River Toad, perfect match. Apparently they are highly toxic/venomous.

I live in the mountains. I have everything walking thru my yard. I had to laugh about the toad.

So this is like Red Dawn but with animals?

Let's hope the real Wolverines don't show up.

But seriously, the biggest wild animal I see consistently are flocks of turkeys, either one big male gobbler and some hens or a bunch of young adolescent jakes waiting their turn to pick up some females.
What I do is play different turkey sounds on my phone from YouTube videos.
Sometimes they come running looking all around me but they always give some reaction.

Depending on the animal I suggest people do the same thing and check the reactions.
It's probably better for them than feeding them human food anyway.

Saw about 20 mule deer on Friday when I went to my favorite creek to relax in the water.

Speaking of critters, there been a definite increase in coyotes hanging around this one one of three videos in just a few hour span.

^And it's not just around your area Dave.

I know this is not scientific but I've heard about more and seen more this last year, both in California and on the East coast, than I remember at any point in my lifetime.

                    Must be the global-warming-cooling-coyote-climate thing.

Had some yotes tear a skunk to pieces in my front yard. They were nice enough to leave the head and spine.

I live in the suburb/agriculture boundary, and if I leave my garage door open the quail will come in and start roosting.

The wife says I can't eat them.
