You know summer is coming in AZ when...

You know summer is coming in AZ when...

Per the calendar, June 15 is the start of the monsoon season so that?s when news stations and .gov agencies start their coverage/PSAs.

The season really starts after three days in a row of a dew point 55 or higher. Some are saying our cooler than average summer will delay the monsoons. We?ll see.

It’s been surprisingly cool this June here. Still mostly in the 80’s, just a few 90 plus days so far. This time last year BLM had already been closed for two weeks here because of how dry and hot it was. This year still open and the brush is still green, may be a really wet monsoon like 2021 this year.

A look at the forecast shows 100 degrees not expected till mid June, the start of monsoon. It’s gonna be a very green and wet summer.

Today actually starts monsoon awareness week so expect to see a bunch of related PSAs.

Our cooler temps mean a late start to monsoon season which may also mean a longer fire season.

BLM restrictions in place for central AZ since 06/09:

PHOENIX – Effective Friday, June 9, at 8 a.m. seasonal fire restrictions will be implemented on Bureau of Land Management-managed lands in the Phoenix District. This includes BLM lands in Maricopa, northern Pinal, western Pima and Yavapai counties. Fire managers have noted an increase in wildfire activity, which is anticipated to peak as the weather continues to get hotter and drier in the coming months. Fire restrictions help to limit activities on public lands that are known to be the most common causes of wildfires. Beginning Friday, June 9, at 8 a.m., these activities are prohibited: B
