Noticed a coyote on our security camera make a beeline under a tree where I have a couple of traps set for pack rats and kangaroo rats.

He was able to open the top of the trap but couldn't figure out how to get past the jaws. I opened them for the picture.

Do you anchor your traps down? I would have thought the yote would have carried the trap off.

After this I am thinking the same but these traps really don't have an easy way unless I guess I could wrap a fairly light chain around them and stake it to the ground.

I think the OP is pretty safe from threatening the Morro Bay kangaroo rat, which hasn't been seen since 1986. I would bet good money they were never within the area where the OP resides. Even the NPS says the kangaroo rat is not in any danger.

I’ve found one of my bait boxes, moved a good deal away from were I placed it and turned over. Obvious something large tried to get at the bait, I’m assuming it was Javelina. No signs of yotes every being that close to the house, bobcats maybe.
