One of the fun things about being an Expatriate is receiving "The Call" from your FFL, "Hey, beanz, we got a stamp for you!"

So you rush to his shop.

Now, if you've played this pay-$200-and-wait game long enough, you aren't just going to have one item in NFA jail, right?

So your mind races wondering which one are you bringing home that day. That super duper quiet suppressor, or that factory SBR? Or did you hit the jackpot batch approval and you're bringing home all the goodies?

Resist all the urge to ask the FFL what the stamp is for!!! It's more fun when you don't know what you are getting that day!

I get emails, not calls. Got one this weekend. The problem is that FFL closed his shop, so I have to go to his house. It's out in the sticks, down a goat trail, almost 2 hours from here.

Living in a small town has some disadvantages too.

Just put the paperwork in the mail along with a check to the ATF for another suppressor. Now the loooong wait begins.

Submitted August 2021. This was paper Form 4. The stamp says it was approved 9/16/21, but I got the call on Thursday. So still about one year+.

eForm 4 for individuals and trusts are now averaging 7 months says Silencer Shop, but my first eForm 4 has been pending since January 2022. Flustercluck.

I have not ever seen their reported waiting times match up with reality. The only way they can say they're taking X amount of time is if someone just now got approved when you and I did. You've been waiting 10 months. It's BS.

The one I just got in went out 10 days short of a year ago, so I'm running better than some have been.

Of those that have been approved, the current unofficial record is 226 days, but the record keeps getting broken every week.

-edit- Have you reached out to your Congressman (Amodei) to look into it on your behalf? I don't know how often it's successful, but it's worth a try at this point.

I appreciate that recommendation of writing my Congressman. I might do that one of these days. Mark Amodei even has a webpage to do just that. But I'm in no great hurry.

Some people in Los Angeles County/city of all places, are getting their CCW permits sooner than that. This whole NFA, stamps, etc., needs to go away. Talk about infringements.
At least you have a way to acquire one without worry about the police, for now. Looks fun!

Yep. No restrictions. Certain cheap parts, a drill press, and a Dremel could save one $20,000+
