My brother and I went on a late-season hike to Marshall Lake in the Sawtooth Wilderness area of Idaho. We had the whole lake to ourselves. We started from the Redfish Lake Trailhead and did a one-day out and back with some catch and release fishing. The lake is full of starving eastern brook trout. Great scenery on the trail (pictures attached).
The route we took came out to about 11 miles round trip according to OnX, which is about 1.5 miles longer than the Alltrails description. If you take the route that we did, there's a crux decision point about 3 miles in at an unmarked fork. Take the RIGHT path, NOT the left - it's counterintuitive. The first time we tried this hike back in June, we took the wrong path here - it sends you towards Thompson Peak.
