    Rattler owners with cans

Trying this post here as well as Gen Firearms.

What kind(s) of can have you used on your Rattler?

How well did they work? With supers? With subs?

    Overall thumbs up or down?

I was running a Dead Air Nomad. You need to adjust the gas to keep it from spitting debris in your face. It is very quiet with subsonics of all weights. I don't run supers at all. I am switching over to an OSS HX QD 7.62 that exhausts gases out the front, which hopefully makes for a more pleasant shooting experience.

ETA The Rattler is a great platform. Mine came with the collapsible brace. I'm debating making it an SBR but waiting to see what the nonsense the ATF comes up with regarding braces.
Subsonic .300 Blackout is a great round. You'll be grinning ear to ear when you shoot it suppressed.

The Nomad is the one I'm considering. It's a bit cheaper, lighter, and shorter than most.

Is the OSS rated for super short barrels? I never really considered them before because I'm cheap.

I also have a 7.5" Blackout AR. I tried it with a pistol can that ended up being very loud, not hearing safe. It might have been because I was using a 3 lug. That same can was fantastic on a Glock with a direct thread piston.

I haven't actually put my Rattler together yet, I just have a conversion kit. I did get one of those FS1913 folding braces. Without a can to use on it, I figured I would just be wasting ammo to put it together and shoot it.

I imagine it would be okay to shoot subs through a Resonator? The barrel length is below the restriction, but if a pistol can is okay with subs, a rifle can should be as well. Don't you also have a Resonator? Ever try it on the Rattler?

I have a Rattler Canebrake. My Q Thunder Chicken could get out of jail at any moment.

Never tried the Resonator on the Rattler because the Nomad uses a proprietary QD muzzle device, which brings up the second point. If you want to use the Nomad as a QD setup you'll need to also buy the Key-Mo system plus a proprietary brake or flash hider. The 2 items will set you back $300 or so above the cost of the Nomad. OTOH, if you just want to screw it on to your threaded barrel then all you need is the can. Personally, though, I prefer the QD setup and spent the extra dough.

And remember that can will get super hot as in burn your fingerprints off if you touch it after some rapid fire or a lot of single shot shooting. Remember to bring a cooking mitt to handle your can after shooting.

ETA And your Sig barrel will need some sort of inexpensive (IIRC) muzzle adapter to accommodate your muzzle device or to thread on the Nomad.

I suppose I could also put the back-end of the Resonator on the Nomad because I have lots of YHM muzzle devices, but that may be sub-optimal.

            ETA?

Doesn't the Rattler just have threads on the end?

No the Sig muzzle has some sort of tapered thread to it and you'll need an adapter to screw on regular threaded devices.

I've never heard of a tapered thread on them. They have a tapered shoulder, but you can get a 90 degree shoulder thing, basically a washer. You don't even really need that - a square shoulder on a can will work fine on a tapered shoulder on the muzzle if both are in spec. SIG's manual says so.

When I spoke with the Sig folks they told me that I needed the adapter thing. Perhaps it was because I was using a Dead Air muzzle device. At any rate, they sent one for free.
