    A common question

A common question I get all the time from friends and family members since I moved here 4 years ago is, what's it like living in So Carolina.

I give them the "Short Version".

"It's like it was growing up in the 50's and 60's but with all the modern amenities and cable and internet.... lol

One of the better things about it is you get to vote against Lindsey Graham in 4 years. Or even better, run against him.

Same same, we love that everything in Idaho starts with a conversation. I tip very well for the young men and women who work in in our favorite eateries and coffee shops. They are respectful, polite and genuine good kids.

It was even better in the 70s and 80s when it was growing up here. A lot less crowded with a lot more local flavor. But by comparison to CA it's still great.

You got that right! Worst memory of 'Bammer was those fire ants. They would swarm on you and then all bite at once.

Ordinary ant poison doesn't kill them?

Yep, you can kill them with various pesticides.

In Texas, we used what's called "red ant drench"...a can of powder you mix with hot water and a tsp of liquid soap (Joy or similar). You find the entry/exit to the ant farm and pour it in with a funnel. Ants pour out and leave. They set up camp at my neighbor's house and he did the same. I don't thin we ever eliminated them.

Youngest son sat on a hill in the first week of arriving in TX. What a fracas...both of us were bitten. Hurts and burns like hell. Good to have a garden hose on and nearby.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

Back in the day, I recall a fellow who poured molten metal down ant hills and then dug up the metal form when it cooled. I don't recall what metal he used. The resulting shape was dendritic and quite impressive. He used to sell them at the sale barn.
