    AZ Vehicle Reg

I have a question for you Zoni's about veh reg from out of state.
The State site is unclear how fee's are calc'd for an older car coming in from out of State.
    since the vehicle was first
    registered in Arizona
    (15% before 8-1-98).
From there, the rate is calculated based on the assessed
value. $2.80 per $100 of assessed value for new vehicles
and $2.89 per $100 for used vehicles.

According to the above, they will tax me at 60% of the new value of my 2005 truck "since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona" not based on a difference of 2005 to present. Is that correct?

Call the mvd and ask the rate.
They will answer and be pleasant.
Then you choose 1,3 or 5 year renewal period.
It will be much less than ca.

I believe the info above is based on a new vehicle being registered in Az for the first time. Bringing a vehicle in used follows the formula for the year it is.

I think my 1999 Silverado was ~$35/yr when I opted for 3 years. I ask if I could do 5 and the DMV rep said the computer tells him what options are available and it was random as to what was offered. My only option was 1 or 3 years. Just for reference, my 1966 GT350 was $65 for 5 years.

      Special plates are more.

Ok, thanks! I was pretty sure it would be less but as I said it's not clear from their posted info.

Just finished changing over the 92 Bronco. $16.00 for the smog check. $5.00 at MVD for the new title and $31.00 for 2 years registration. If I remember it wa as about $150.00 per year in CA.

It's based on the first year registered so 2005, then compute the percentage drop per year since. My 2004 Yukon was like $100 and change for 2 year reg. I bought it and registered it in 2020. I brought it in from out of state. We don't have emissions on Mohave County so that wasn't a factor.

              AZ Vehicle Reg

Another plus is that smog checks are only required in three counties; Pinal, Pima and parts of Maricopa.

My 68 F100 with historical plate is $70 for 5 years.
Same for my 78 Yamaha (regular plate).
No appointment. Walked in (Bullhead City), registered 5 vehicles. Done in 10 minutes.
The newer vehicles were no more than $200 for 5 years, each.

If I have property in AZ with CA DL, can I register a vehicle (which will be solely use while in AZ). Is that possible?

Also remember if you register your car for multiple years, and sell it, or total it in a accident you can apply on line and get the remaining value of the registration fees refunded to you.

Also keep the plates when you sell your car or if it gets totaled in a accident.

The plates belong to you. They don't stay with the vehicle.

Yes, you will need an AZ ID card though to establish a MVD account.

I think the plate rule changed. I had a plate from a vehicle that I sold 4 years ago and when I tried to use it for a truck I was registering last year, the MVD employee just told me to toss the plate. I might be wrong though and that employee just didn't want for me to use it lol.

Ahh, AZ is like ID in this way. The plates are registered to the person, not the vehicle. I bought a mc in ID, guy unscrewed the plates and I put the bike in the trailer.

I don't say you could reuse the plate, just that it's yours, and doesn't stay with the vehicle, also so you can get the refund for the remaining registration.

Plus it forces the new owner to get plates.
