    From Texas

Here is a link to a post on a blog from back in October of last year. The range was built on property he owns by my buddy Jim who lives near Hillsboro. Lone Star Parson lives in Hillisboro. The range goes back to 1000 yards. We are shooting at 200. I am in the white T-shirt. Just the three of us on Jim's range for the day.

God, Guns, Church and Country Life in Texas and anything else I care to think of.

    (Read the comments too)

Wife and I bailed from Chico in 2015. Some here may remember doing business with me in my garage on Sandi Dr. H&K Enterprises.

    Beautiful range!

I usually go north to Sanger (Magnum Shooting) - but your place looks great.

Funny thing about Texas gun ranges. Many don't like or even allow you to shoot commie ammo (beggars weren't choosers before the PRK bans). And they aren't fond of steel core ammo at many of the ranges within the DFW area (indoor or outside). Guess it tears up their gear.

    God bless Texas!

Yeah, there's nothing like shooting on private property.

And yeah, most public ranges aren't fond of any projectile that attracts a magnet, for the reason you stated. I royally embarrassed myself at Defender Outdoors not long ago. Was on their indoor rifle range shooting some FMJ 308 that I handloaded. Totally forgot that the bullet jackets were bi-metal. RSO caught an impact spark in the backstop through his scope. Apologized sincerely while wiping egg of my face.

You never know. Defender will only allow brass case ammo. Likely at the behest of who ever salvages their range brass. Alpine won't allow FMJ. Their claim is that they get splash back shrapnel from the bullet jackets, even at 100 yards. Then they mention that they sell soft point ammo. Ahhhh. Got it (never went back). Shoot Point Blank is 10 minutes away. Absent steel in the projectiles, they don't care what you shoot.

North to Sanger, you say. I'm guessing we aren't that far apart. Wife and I live in South Arlington, about a mile north of Hwy 20.

We conversed briefly in the way back times. See posts #31 and #32 under California State Guard. Feel free to PM me.

      Texas, by God!

Lol - small Internet and small world! No - not to far away. We landed in Keller, but I did research quite a few homes in Arlington. Beautiful neighborhoods and some places had trees galore! Reminded me of my youth in the Midwest (minus the 8 ft of fun snow...except that 6" we got in February...brrrr).

A guy at one of my old vendors (Oracle) has a brother with 100 acres north of DFW. Told me they need to get rid of some hogs....oh....I do need to break in my 6.8 someday.

"Told me they need to get rid of some hogs..."

Bacon! Or at least some BBQ. Our youngest son got a hog a few years back. We made pulled pork in the crock pot with BBQ sauce. I am itching to bust a hog with my Sharps 45-70.

Dear Lord! I've never shot or even fondled a 45-70. That is a buffalo / elephant gun for sure!

            Bacon indeed!

              " I've never shot or even fondled a 45-70."

Hm. Perhaps we can remedy that sometime. I cast my own bullets and load them well within black powder specs. Much like shooting a 12 gauge.

Speaking of which, I see where Hodgden is shutting down their black powder plant.
