Congratulations. Was there a certain trigger point that got you both wanting out or was it just a decision that slowly came to fruition? Whatever the case, good luck on your escape.

You can do a search on here, someone had posted the link for the FTB info or search on Google for it. There are multiple "triggers" they consider. Your tax preparer should be able to help you with it.

For us, it was no jobs, no minor kids in school there and our home sold, so no residency as of beginning of June. So we have 5 mths of CA for 2021.

        A couple of things:
Make sure you contact the county registrar of voters to get yourself off the CA rolls. As soon as you can, register to vote in your new state. Also, fill out a statement of facts with CA DMV stating you have moved out of state and vehicles are no longer in CA. This is supposed to stop DMV from attaching any liens for registration on your state tax return (if any). My wife still gets her absentee ballot sent to our CA PO box, and my son has been in TX five years and his ballot is still getting sent to his MIL despite him contacting Santa Cruz County election officials numerous times.

Ha - great play on words - "trigger" point.

I have been playing it out in my head for a while now. The ice breaker was post Recall election (my wife got herself way too invested in the outcome which I knew was a forgone conclusion) and she basically stated - "we're out of here".

Now we are going thru due diligence. Factors:

          1) Taxes - Cali taxes are going north for sure - this makes NV very enticing. We have some liquidity events with certain investments that will make this issue very appealing.

          2) Politics - The Gov in NV is as big or a bigger chit for brains as we have here in Cali. Other areas (local level) are much less woke or Socialist. Anything other than Cali or NY is a win.

          3) Housing - Our kids can't live the American dream in Cali. They can in NV. We think they are headed with us for that very reason.

          4) Proximity - We can still make it back to Cali for extended family and weather related trips when necessary.

          5) Sports/Entertainment - Vegas has it all for us. The best restaurants in the world (in a 5 square mile area), NFL, NHL (maybe MLB if the A's move), shows, gambling, etc etc. - plus there is a robust International airport there when the world changes and travel makes more sense.

I am very tired of not having a vote or voice and this is Cali's legacy for at least the next decade. I am at the point where I will take my chances elsewhere.

Again - lots of due diligence before we make this move but we are at least on the road.......

Thanks to all for the well wishes and advice so far.

P.S. - Gun stuff is definately on the list but I downplay that around the Mrs

Word is that he will be out next year and replaced by a good Conservative. Sounds like he pissed off the casino owners, and they hold the power in the State.

Hoping that is true, as we are on the same trajectory.

The Mayor of Vegas is awesome, according to my wife - she’s been doing a lot of homework.

When picking out a neighborhood for a home, visit the local walmarts in the area to get a sense of the the people you will be living with.

Better yet, pick a neighborhood where there is no local Wal-Mart.

I moved to Summerlin and have to drive a distance to get to WM. Grocery stores are nearby. Getting out of CA has been the best decision.

I would add the grocery store and Costco.

Good luck on your move. All the work is worth it.

Another reason to the long list for moving was to eliminate the draw of home being in the bay area. Home isn't there anymore. The kids would have to find an affordable place to rent if they wanted to live there. Fat chance.

For anyone who lives in the area > Summerlin vs Henderson. Thoughts?

The Gangster coming over from Cali does not make the Democrats look
any better. The whole lock down has crippled Vegas.

Not sure who the Gangster is, but the word I have is that the current Sheriff is a likely replacement, and that is is a good Conservative and has crucial influential backing.

I guess only time will tell, but it sounded like a positive possibility.

OP, when you get moved or even before,

close any California bank accounts you have. Open new accounts in your new state with Nevada banks.

Yeah, thanks. Based on the news regarding Union Bank in the other thread, it’s going to happen anyway.
