    Interesting bobcat encounter yesterday evening

Both my wife and I went out in the back to put a couple more solar lights in the landscaping. We have a four foot concrete wall that has a wide top to it that goes around most of the backyard.

As I am making a hole in the ground for one of the light stakes, my wife in a fairly calm voice says "Look up, and slowly back up towards me" I look up at sitting on the concrete divider about five feet from me is a really beautiful but not large bobcat. So I backup a bit towards my wife and stop and started talking to the cat.

It started talking back like our house cat would. Not threatening just quietly talking like cats will. This went on for about 15-20 seconds but we both felt it wise to go back into the house. We tried to get a picture/video but only got a second or two before it decided it was time to go back in the desert.

I've heard of other people mention that they have bobcats sit on their fence while they BBQ etc. at a distance. It was definitely an unusual experience but one that makes you wonder since that's a lot of teeth and claws that get my respect.

My wife and I had a similar experience two weeks ago. A baby bobcat the size of a medium housecat explored around our rural yard area while we looked on.

At first encounter, the cat was surprised and turned to scurry off but then turned back around, studied us for a few seconds then decided to just continue on exploring and poking about the yard before wandering off back into the woods. At one point, the cat plopped own in the dirt and rolled around on its back, taking a dirt bath in full view of us.

This special encounter was another reminder of the prudence of our decision to get out of the city and live in a rural place where see and hear the gentle rhythm of nature, not the endless, confused and noisy sounds of the city.

He/She wasn't huge if you zoom in a bit on the picture I would say maybe 20 pounds?....It has definitely been a different world out here. So much wildlife all the way from this to coyotes, javelinas, road runners, etc. etc. We love it.

I have family in Cave Creek AZ. A Bobcat nests on their roof to have it's litters and visits their back yard often. Way cool

I have all kinds of animals come into my yard everyday, bears, bobcats etc. I think they know when you won`t hurt them. I go out on my deck and watch them stroll by. Its awesome to see. Living in the mountains has a lot of perks.

I remember being at a buddies ranch in Tecate when I was a teen. Some of the hands had caught a bobcat & put it under a huge shipping cage. It was adorable until you got within a few feet & then it turned into a Tasmanian devil...scary!

I heard they don't attack people... Unlike mountain lions... I'd probably try to hang out with it...

No bobcats here, but we do get foxes. Seems there's a fox family that hangs out in various people's backyards, including ours at times. It's quite a ruckus when they're in their den raising their little pups. But that's nature. They don't bother anyone, nobody bothers them, and it's all good.
