    watch those grizzlies, Idaho folks!

Rude grizzly in Idaho kills a bull and gets put in time out:

A grizzly bear in eastern Idaho has been relocated after it killed a domestic bull. Idaho Fish and Game says USDA Wildlife Services determined that the adult male near Island Park Reservoir killed the bull that had been grazing. A trap was set up on Monday and officials were able to captured the bear. Biologists gave the grizzly a health assessment and a GPS collar and relocated it to the Snow Creek Butte area (see map below).

LOL at the relocation - the grizzly will be right back where it was in a few days.

        And they DON'T like joggers!

A Maryland man is recovering after a grizzly bear attack near Island Park Friday morning. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says the 41-year-old was jogging alone on a trail just off Stamp Meadows Road, northwest of Island Park. The sheriff's office says the man surprised a sow grizzly bear and her cub, and was attacked and bitten several times. The man came back to his cabin and called 911. He refused medical treatment and family took him to the hospital, the sheriff's office said.

Gang of game wardens confront Idaho grizzly, punch its ticket:

A grizzly bear was shot and killed Friday, while officials from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks were investigating the scene of an attack that happened Thursday near West Yellowstone.

                Hah.

Since we are here, maybe we can discuss the best caliber for bear defense?

No grizzlies in MO, however there was a black bear wandering the streets of Mountain Grove, MO just a couple of weeks ago.
                  Good news though!
Finally my wife bought herself a Double Tap derringer in 9 mm Luger for self-defense, and concealed carry in her purse/pocket! (Completely on her own...she is however a co-owner of our collection of more than 60 firearms! Needles to say: MO is a Constitutional Carry state, so there is no need to petition a "guberment" to exercise ones basic constitutional rights)!
Maybe not a perfect weapon for the "scary" black bears wandering the streets of a small town, but for potential two-legged predators it should be more than enough.

There are probably 100 pages on Calguns related to bear guns. Of those, 2 or 3 are from those who live in brown bear country. The remainder are fantasies.

We saw a mother with cubs on a hike wife and I and dogs took north of Apgar...the western entrance to Grand Tetons national park. The dogs alerted to mama bear and barked once or twice. The bear turned around and moved out with her cubs. No drama and no guns were shot.

I plan on exploring some of the mountains of Northern Idaho now that I'm here. I will follow the bear rules. I'll also keep bear spray and a 10mm Glock backup, but I just don't expect it will be a problem. Already getting lots more wild life visiting than in California, love it.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

We've been here for 20+ years and we still get blown away by the animals.

We took an all-day raft trip on the Payette last year. We got in the raft around 0900, paddled for a mile or two, looked up and a golden eagle was about 30 feet off the water and headed directly toward us. He had a very large trout in his mouth and flew with no problem.

What a way to start your day.

For sure, this is a unique state with easy access to truly remote areas.

I've always liked the goldens better than the bald eagles because they are more of a predator and less of a scavenger, and they are less common.

However, some old-timer rancher folks around here do NOT like golden eagles - they'll take a new lamb.

Cabarton run is great to see Ospreys and such. My brother and I floated through the Birds of Prey area on the Snake but did not see many birds.

Surprisingly, I've seen more birds of prey and interesting waterfowl on the unpaved section of Greenbelt between Bohn Crossing and Barber Park.
