    Why not Missouri?

I see lots of people wanting to go to Idaho, or Arizona, or Nevada. I don't get why people are wanting to go to arid areas that could barely support 1% of the current population before irrigation was brought to the area.

7 years ago I moved to the Ozarks of Missouri, bought a home on 5 acres for $23k. There are no major natural disasters (an occasional tornado, but not in tornado alley or dixie alley), there are year-round rains, a much longer growing season, low housing prices, plenty of freedoms.

Missouri just passed the SAPA, Second Amendment Protection Act, which forbids Missouri law enforcement from enforcing federal gun control laws or assisting federal agents in doing so. Missouri has Constitutional carry, where you are allowed to concealed carry any place where you can legally open carry. F2F transfers are legal.

It seems like the secret is out, and people are flooding in, raising the housing prices significantly, but still insignificant compared to California housing.

I dunno; as I watch my cows graze on the green, green grass, the garden growing like crazy, the rolling hills, clean air and clean water... I think of how lucky I am to have escaped. Honest people and clean neighbors, four seasons, regular rainfall, tons of fishing and hunting, boating and other recreation... and freedoms.

Much of the midwest I couldn't take, I'm used to mountains and valleys rather than flatland, but the Ozarks are definitely everything I wanted. Except Ocean... I do miss that.

    Just a thought.

This is a great post, and a great point. I moved to Prescott, AZ before the market went NUTS. And I have things in place for water longevity, but I think parts of the middle south are overlooked. Not for long I think, humidity sucks I'm sure, but I'd deal with humidity before staying in CA.

Humidity is generally not bad here, granted there are some summer storms, but it's not like Houston where it's like breathing inside a wet blanket. The Ozarks are more mountains, less like the swampy south.

And yes, as ALWAYS, stay away from the Metros like KC and StL...

Ozarks are definitely a cool area. Enjoy Sir. Your area sounds incredible. America is filled with amazing spots for those willing to travel and explore. We spent 25 years exploring America deciding on our final exit strategy.

Not talking about the cities, I just like the ocean... waves, beaches, sand, etc. Port cities are rough -n- tumble, crime ridden and full of disease and vermin.

There are large and well-stocked lakes and reservoirs out here, some even good for sailing, but it's not salt water. I miss a nice sunset over the pacific.

But I can't tell you the joy of taking off the "bullet button" from my guns and slapping a 30 round mag and screwing on the suppressor.

Interesting. I’m currently on the way to Table Rock lake in the MH for a few days. Not with an eye to relocating; just curious about the area.

We will be stopping in KC for a night and sample some burnt ends on the way back though...

I’m deciding where I want to move after I finish grad school for my nurse practitioner with 16 years under my belt as an RN. Been thinking about Montana or one of the Dakotas. May have to check out Missouri as well.

Check out retirement communities. The supply/demand ratio for medical professionals is in your favor. From what I can tell, you'd make every bit as much money as when you're in kali.

I’ve got a friend in Missouri that complains about the cold but otherwise seems to love it. It wasn’t on my “CA-exit radar” until about a year ago. You’ve just reinforced the add.
