FWIW my rdtompki account went belly-up with no response from the mods. I am now 1911Rick. Still in Treasure Valley (Middleton, ID). Still shooting steel challenge even practicing in the winter. While TV isn't high altitude (less than 3000') it's still a mountain climate so for those contemplating moving here layers are your friend.

If you're in TV and looking for training I'd recommend Kyle Gentry of Combat Absolute: former CA LE, good guy, and he can cram a lot into his one-day classes. Even his basic classes are worthwhile and inexpensive (by CA standards).

As others have said: when you get here get an Enhanced CCW license which allows you to get the OR CHL. If you are a CA CHL holder don't throw out your license (as I did) since I believe this would wave the training and 6 months wait.

If so, I did not have to wait 6mo as I got my Enhanced ID when I was still a CA resident. When I moved to ID it was merely a change of address. But for out of state residents they need a permit from their state of residence to qualify for an Enhanced ID CWL.

The cold doesn't bother me much at all. If there's no wind I can stand sub-freezing temps without a jacket as I move about my day.

The coldest it got was 15 and we got maybe 18" of snow this season.

Winter was a worry for us and it turned out to be far milder than expected.

Oregon accepts the Idaho enhanced CWP training certificate as meeting the required training for non resident Oregon ccw issuance. You still have to apply at the Oregon county of your choice. Bingo. Malheur county was very convenient and quick. The wanted an actual training cert in addition to my ID Enhanced CHL so I just sent copies of my CA training, $65 for four years versus the ridiculous amount is cost to get my CA CHL.
