Glenn Hamer, president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry called it part of a “radical agenda” by “out-of-state special interests.”

That refers to the fact the measure is being financed by a California chapter of Service Employees International Union. “Dramatically increasing health-care costs at a time when the Arizona economy is struggling with double-digit unemployment rate and record jobless claims will devastate hardworking families and delay the state’s economic recovery,” he said.

This is the nutty part:

But a tax referendum on the ballot Nov. 3 would whack job creators and make people rethink retirement in Scottsdale or a business move to Tucson.

If someone is really thinking of a business move to Tucson they need to have their heads examined. They are anti-business, anti-capitalist, in short, ultra-liberal.

This initiative process has always seemed unfair to me. Paid signature collectors set up in public areas and display highly misleading and simplistic descriptions of whatever initiative they are pushing.

Once on the ballot, who knows how people will vote?

The whole process strongly favors well-financed special interest groups.

My default policy is to never vote for a tax increase. Ever. They can find other ways to pay for it if they really wanted to. There is too much waste, fraud and abuse in government. I learned that while in California. It seems we are witnessing the kalifornication of Arizona.

The problem is that when someone cooks up something like this, there isn't going to be an organized opposition. Someone has to care enough to put the time and energy into organizing an opposition on short notice. Without opposition the chances are that most voters will be ignorant of the issues by election time.

This is probably related to the stupid pay raise for the teachers that Doocifer agreed to last year with no money to pay for it.

Yes, same here. I voted against 208 and so did my wife who is a teacher.

You have to scrutinize department spending with a magnifying glass;
Example, you have a site to build a shelter for non-binary homeless pedohpiles, but you have a funding problem.
Ask Public Works department, (they bill folks for their services), not taxes, to install a drinking fountain in the park area. No big deal.
Well there is no water, sewer or power at the location nor an environmental review. So public works will pay for the permits, hookup fees, running power etc... and their will be a charge code they can charge stuff to for ever.

No one will notice unless its looked for in their expenditures.
Usually these are favors to elected officials who are in charge of rate fees.
