Ruger PC Charger Pistol - Initial range impressions

Hi everyone, some members expressed interest in my initial thoughts with the PC Charger Pistol so I thought I'd post them here. Not a full review, but just some impressions:

Okay, I managed to put some rounds through the PC Charger Pistol, as well through my Banshee and my friend's HK SP5. Overall, I think you get a lot for your money from the Ruger. Similar to other Rugers, it is built like a tank and its great that it comes with the Glock magwell since I have tons of Glock mags and no Ruger mags.

The trigger is excellent, both light in weight and with a good solid reset. I did have one FTE in the last round of one of the mags, no other failures.

It shoots smoothly, I think softer than a traditional blowback AR9, but the SP5/MP5 still wins by far as the smoothest/softest shooting. The CMMG Banshee would be just below the SP5 and above the Ruger in this respect, in my opinion.

The FS1913A (aluminum) pistol brace did indeed fold on me a few times while I was shooting the PC Charger, as I had seen reported before. Its not that big of a deal at the range, but in competition (less likely given pistol braces are in general not allowed) or home defense, its not ideal. I'll have to bring it out some more and see if the problem persists.

I put some 147gr Gold Dots and 147gr HSTs through the PC Charger without any issues. Ran suppressed without any issues as well.

The Ruger is not hard to disassemble, kind of similar to the 10/22, but definitely more complicated than an AR (some bolts you have to remove, etc.).

I still like how nimble and light the Banshee is... it handles so nicely. The Ruger is bulkier/heavier and feels a little more awkward. The SP5 is beautiful and shoots the best. The Ruger, however, at almost half the cost of the Banshee and 1/4 the cost of the SP5 is pretty great for the money (especially if you have Glock mags). With the folding brace and takedown feature, the package can become quite small. Its a little silly that you can remove the forend (since its so short already), but if you wanted to leave a can attached to the barrel in your bag and reassemble the pistol quickly, that would be one potential use I can see.

Any thoughts to swapping out the charging handle to the other side? Does the brace fold where it connects? Do you think any style folding brace would fold when shooting?

I'd prefer to swap the charging handle to the left, but the brace won't close completely if you do that. I think the SB FS1913A folds when shooting because of the mechanism they use to unlock the brace (lifting it slightly). The recoil presses up on it and makes it unlock sometimes. My MP5k stock folds like this too, but it takes a lot more force and movement to do so, so it never accidentally folds like this brace does.

What can was that? How gassy was the Ruger? A nice feature of the Ruger is no AR charging handle.

Thanks for the review. I've been wanting a smaller PCC and I think the Charger fits the bill especially for the price.

Thanks for the review. Is it possible to move the hand stop closer to the end of the rail? Thanks.

That's my Dead Air Wolf9SD (in short configuration). I didn't notice any gas to the face shooting suppressed with the PC Charger, but I think Dead Air's suppressors are pretty good about that. The charging handle works well, but it does reciprocate. I didn't even notice that while shooting it though.

Yep, there's room in the M-lok slot on the bottom to slide the hand stop forward. The position shown in the picture is how it comes from the factory though.

Thanks for the review. I was looking at the banshee in 10mm. Wish they would make a carbine but have only seen pistols. Not cheap either.

I think so, I'd have to take a look at it again more closely. Thanks for the TFB notice, I just happened to see their video. I sent a message to SB Tactical to see if they can send me updated parts to upgrade my brace so that it doesn't fold while firing.
