    Suppressor advice needed

    Hello all,

Now that I am in a free state, I am in the market for a suppressor.

I just picked up an Adams Arms 7.5" piston upper that i'll run for now as a pistol, but it is loud and a suppressor would be nice.

I would like to keep the weight and length down. Obviously would need one able to handle that barrel length. Would like to get one in .30 cal so I can swap it onto other guns.

Ideally $1100 or under would be nice.

My dealer said he will order me whatever I want, but he only stocks a few Silencercos, and none of them are rated for this short of barrel.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks all

Maybe try a forum largely populated by people who can legally own/use a suppressor. Snipershide.com, silencertalk.com, etc. I am sure there are a few on here who could weigh in with experience based insight, but, not as many as those who frequent other venues in free America.

        None.

I advise my clients not to buy rifle suppressors because they are almost useless. You are trying to tame down a very fast round out of a very short barrel. Makes zero sense. That is like adding mufflers to a nitro funny car.

My buddy was running his rdb yesterday with an aac mini 4. I still needed ear pro and I was 30 yards away. All a can does on a short 556 barrel is ruin balance.

Buy a short 9mm upper and get a can for that.

Back around 2013, I remember reading about 300 Blackout and how Noveske had an 8-10 inch barrel system that was designed to operate with a suppressor.

Here in ca. it's dream on but do you have any experience with this?

Just in case I move to a free state...

          Thanks

I would recco YHM but their minimum length is 10.5". You could shoot it on your 7.5 anyway but the warranty would probably be voided. I suspect the can would survive for the most part if you used their muzzle brake too.

Normally the brand everyone turns to for short barrels is Rugged, but they don't make 5.56 cans. Speaking of which, a 7.62 can would probably be fairly noisy on a 5.56.

Whatever you get, it won't be hearing safe, but it might be hearing tolerable with foamies or lightweight muffs. I'm ready to try my 10.5" but haven't been able to get to the range. Unless I get there the minute the range opens, there will be other shooters too, and I can hardly test a can when a bunch of other people are blasting away.

Again, a 7.62 can will hardly quiet down your gun at all and be a lot longer and heavier than a 5.56 can.

Overall the arf armory is outstanding with gun info.

So many choices... where do we start.

SilencerCo *I think* only offers the Saker when it comes to no barrel length restrictions. But you will find these heavy and there are much newer and quieter suppressors out there.

Most, if not all, of Dead Air Silencer's suppressors have no minimum barrel length. I'd start with them.

If you are planning to use it only on rifles, the Nomad-30 has very good suppression and a very nice sound quality. You can add a wipe or an E-brake for additional sound suppression. It can take the big boy guns like a 300 Win Mag if you ever buy one later. It can direct thread or use one of the new quick detach methods like KeyMount.

If you plan on using it on handguns also, the Wolfman is a versatile suppressor that can take up to 7.62x39 for rifles, and 357 Magnum for pistols. You can run it in the short or the long configuration depending on your need.

I'm also still learning about suppressors. I'm sure there are others with no minimum barrel lengths out there.

                    Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am not really going for "hearing safe", so much as "safer". If I have to use it indoors for HD or while in a vehicle or whatever, I don't want to go totally deaf.
I can tolerate normal gunshot ringing, but this thing unsuppressed is gonna shut off my world totally if I have to use it with no muffs.

Suppressors only reduce muzzle blast, which -may- be helpful but it does not stop supersonic shockwave (crack). Suppressors are best used with sub-sonic firearms/loads.

If you put a suppressor on a 7.5" 'pistol', now you are going to have a 15" long 'thing' that won't be very useful as a pistol anymore, plus it won't stop the sonic boom.

I would not fire that thing off in a home or car. Your ears will bleed due to ruptured eardrums.

I think a 300 BO gun would fit that role much better than a 5.56. Not to start a caliber war, but as TheGood said, for the intended uses you are mentioning, subsonic ammo would be much better. Hard to find subsonic 5.56, a bit easier with sub 7.62x39 now, but sub 300 BO is best when it comes to availability.

For that matter, subsonic 9x19 or any 45 ACP would work too, but you give up a lot of flight and terminal ballistic advantages to the 300 BO. I read that the ultimate suppressed ammo would be the Russian 9x39, but only a handful of cans are rated for it and not many companies are offering AR parts for the caliber yet. The Wolfman is rated for the 9x39 BTW.

.45 doesn't really give up anything to Blackout. Both have 200 gr bullets at 1000 fps. Home defense doesn't need a 300 yard trajectory. But both Blackout and .45 are weak sauce compared to 5.56.

I've never shot suppressed supersonic indoors, but the supersonic crack doesn't sound very loud to me. It keeps it from being super quiet, but it's not that loud.

As for length, the YHM Turbo K is 4.75 inches. There are others about the same length. OP, I know what you mean about short barreled 5.56. My 10.5" would set off car alarms in the range parking lot with just a bare flash hider.

This is the best comparison video I've seen on a short barreled AR. Most channels are afraid to meter short barreled AR's. Reminder that 140 db is considered hearing safe, although being indoors would be a lot louder.

Hey Buddy, im going through the same thing. I want to tame my 7.5 Diablo upper. Its not the noise that bothers me its the concussion.

Anyhow, what i have decided to do is, buy the Noveske kx3 piggy brake. From All the reviews and videos ive watched, it seems it tames the concussion pretty well. At least to a bearable level. Im not looking to make it quiet, just to be as loud as any other AR.
It seems the Noveske kx3 will do that AND the surefire Warden. I would prefer the warden because then you can put a surefire can on it but it costs 3x amount of noveske. You have to buy the warden And a sure muzzle attachment like the surefire warcomp or something.

Anyhow look it into if. If you live in AZ, pm me and when i get my kx3 in my diablo, you can shoot it and see if its what you want. Wont cost you anything but gas. If you live in AZ that is.
