Excellence In Competition badges and promotion points.

So my buddy and I won our bronze EIC pistol badges at the Cal Guard Shooting Competition.

We've been searching the internet and even hit up the Cal Guard shooting team but can't find answers to our questions....

When you put in for promotion in the Cal Guard (Army), does it replace your EXPERT marking on your 4100?

Anyone know how many promotion points it's worth if at all? Please someone cite the source also.
    No one seems to know.

If all it does it just give me something to wear and have no Army point value that's fine it's still an honor but I'm trying to find out everything I can about this especially since I have a Soldier with this badge who's putting in an E5 packet in the upcoming cycle.

I don't believe marksmanship badges count for any points. Then again, I'm federal and not in the Guard.

    Congrats btw!

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

First of all, congratulations. I wish I knew about the match. I’ve been chasing these things around.
Are the results posted on the CMP website?

The Bronze, Silver and Gold badges are worn in replace of the qualification badges. All qualification badges are subordinate to the EIC badges per AR670-1, 29-16

They are unusual in that they are permanent awards and while you might not be current on your annual qualification you still get to wear the badge.

In regards to promotion points I presume the USAR and the Guard will handle this in the same way, in that you still need a current qualification card on your primary weapon, and the points are pro-rated up based on a 40/40 perfect score. That’s where you are going to get your promotion points in regard to any shooting. It’s not treated like an ARCOM, AAM or any other medal that are individually worth points.

You could have just won the nationals at Camp Perry, be the #1 among the Presidents 100 in both Rifle and Pistol and without a current weapons qualification card are still ineligible for promotion.

When putting in a promotion package for E5 the total points for a 40/40 is 180. If putting in for E6 the points are worth less (as army training and education start to carry more weight).

Fellow Bronze Pistol Shot holder here as well. Never knew the specifics on promotion points but always been sure to list it on my Biographical Sketch and ERB.

Someday I would like to earn gold for both pistol and rifle, but I know that would require me getting my own rifle and pistol to match specs and go to matches on my own time and dime. I went once on orders back in 2010 and have been trying to get back every year since with no luck.

And there in lies the biggest challenge.

The above link is the CMP's competition tracker. There you can find registered sanctioned matches and search by EIC pistol/rifle and by state.
So you don't have to go to a military match to get points.

Keep in mind, starting 2015 it is likely the CMP will change the rules that to earn points one has to get at least 250/300. So if you win the match with a 249/300 and beat 100 other people you still get zero points.

Also potential rule changes for 2015 will allow any safe ammo. Meaning folks can use lead cast 155g SWC bulls eye loads or load whatever they want.

Potentially as well for 2015 they will start allowing pretty much any pistol used by the military ever. So bring your Glocks and Sigs. Anything other than a match built M9 or 1911 will be at a serious disadvantage, but at least one can get started and play along.

            Snoopy, you're the best!
I've been trying to find that info but it's such a rarity no one even knows what it is let alone any kind of point value.

The CalGuard shooting comp is usually held at the end of August every year and it's a State level match. It's also called the California Combat Match.

            It's an amazing experience.

I went to the facebook page and found the memo for the match. It looks like it's only open to CA-Guard members. So I don't know how that's going to work in terms of your EIC points being administered by the CMP.

Can a Non-Guard member sign up to this thing?

I usually go to the Navy Fleet Match at Camp Pendleton because they post their event on the CMP competition tracker with enough time to register, and ANYONE can participate.

Is it possible for a non CA Guard member register to the match? Personally, I just care about the EIC match, but the other stuff looks fun.

I believe it's CalGuard only. Maybe also SMR??

My understanding is it falls under the special military rules because gear is worn and rifle EIC starts at 400 yards. Technically you start at the 425 mark and when the targets start coming up you run to the 400 and prone from there so it's not like the other CMP matches.

                It's worth 4 points.

It's also not just the EIC pistol and rifles. It's about 3 days of various competitions because Cal Guard members are also trying out for the shooting team.

This match has completely changed me as a shooter and a trainer.
