    Navy reserve to AD?

Anyone done it? Backstory, I'm prior Army. Got out last December, and have regretted getting out but have been relieved I'm out of my unit.
I talked to a recruiter, and she made it seem like it was the easiest thing in the world, but I don't trust her.
Supposedly the Navy is only taking prior service as reservists otherwise I'd just go active with them.

You can do it. It's called switching from RC to AC. In fact NPC had a list of available billets last time I checked... I know one guy that did it. Availability depends on your rate and manning levels. Last year there were only a couple spots for IS.

You would have to be in the reserve to switch to Active... But if you did it on a first contract you would have to pay back any signing bonus

It's very difficult. I have a couple sailors who are working for me under FTS (Full Time Support Orders). Long story short they were denied renlistment as Active Duty in their rate, and took FTS reserve orders to stay Navy. None of them have been able to convert. For our occupanitional fields I have only seen one package approved in the last two fiscal years.

I am sure it is very hard. I am almost 3 years out now and prior army reserve and I transferred to Army after waiting about 2 years to get the DD368 signed by my company/battalion/brigade commanders and some civilian.

I am actually thinking of joining the navy reserve, but havent had time to visit the NOSC as the typical mall recruiter said I need to go there. Oh well, I have some civvie weight to lose anyways.

NOSC ALAMEDA? What is your pay grade? We have a guy in our unit that went green to blue.

What I would do is try and get in touch with an AD USN career councilor or career planner. They don't have quotas the same way recruiters do and will tell you exactly what the forecast looks like right now.

Hmm I wonder if you might lose a rank coming over. Only the recruiter would know for sure. Army E6 went to a Navy E5 but then make E6 right away. Terrell's advice is probably good but the trick would be finding one and then one that cares enough to help lol. Sadly that's our military sometimes

I'm an E4. So I talked to her, and all that is open for my pay grade is cryptosomething or other. Computer guy basically. And that's for the reserve side. I was toldoing that if I sign for their spec ops side I can go directly to the active side, but I dunno about all that.

Anyway, I also have an RE3 on my dd214, so things are going to be slow while they work on a waiver. I've also got a good amount of paperwork to do, and references.

The last DD368 packet I worked had be signed by the first general officer in the service member's chain of command. If you are actually discharged vs. having IRR time remaining then you shouldn't need to go thru that process.

I have IRR remaining. I was discharged honorably, but with a school drop. And I guess the Army gives a 3 for a re enlistment code for people that get out early, so that's why it's such a pain for me.
