Army Reserves Drill Sergeant

I was part of a reserve drill sergeant unit for a couple years. Didn't like it much, just tons of paperwork and prep, occasional duty offering to do 2 weeks or so at Ft. Jackson or LW reception.
You could volunteer for a full cycle so a lot of guys did enjoy the flexibility offered.Comment

Usually the reserve DS duty gets tapped for reception battalion. You march privates around to get their gear, hair cut, glasses, etc. and generally just keep them in line for a week or so before they ship to their BCT unit.Comment

Weird. I think all Navy RDC's are active duty. Could be a cool experience for you. Dang I only scored a 97 ;'(sigpicComment

I don't know if they tell you more info than just basic training? If it's Infantry basic I personally would run. All during basic I remember thinking how crappy of a job that looked like. Who's there to wake us up? Who's there to tuck us in? Who's there to deal with a bunch of idiots? Constant PT with privates. Screw that, looked like they were living stuck in basic training. They just got to go home and see their families for a few short hours. If you're into that. Good luck!Comment

I wish that was true. the Reserves has Soldiers do a lot of crap before and after drill. don't forget Platoon Sgt's get screwed all month long and don't get paid for it either. I know I did it.Currently the Army Reserves is trying to build numbers and pulling every thing they can to get people in the IRR to come back to a drilling status. DI's work a lot of hours. Since your a Reservist they can only work you when your at drill or on orders but expect to get very little sleep during those times.http://govnews.ca.gov/gov39mail/mail.php

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Roger got it, I'm a Commander and work everyday on Reserve stuff for no pay. But for most soldiers they don't do too much off drill weekends unless in leadership.Cory

Still sergeants going overseas to train Iraqis and afghans? Yea right. LOLOL.
I hated my drill sergeant. You really think some afghan private will deal with his ****? Not to mention the language barrier
Your "interview" is with the unit commander. It's "hey so you want to join us? Cool. I thing you'd be a great fit ". That's it.
And your contract, if you're on IRR is nothing like the contract they give you when you enlist. It's one sheet of paper saying you're transferring from IRR to reserves and are going to that unit.Comment

Im currently a drill instructor for the marines. For three months at a time I live this job. for the first four days they get there you will work about 22 hours a day with maybe a few hours of sleep. its insane. After that once the recruits start getting trained you'll work on average from about 0430 to 2130 at least. I've lost about 20 pounds since I got here a year ago. its not a job its definitely a lifestyle. everything revolves around the training schedule. families tend to get neglected for about 70 days ata time around here....
with that being said, I love it, there is nothing better than being able to say that you make marines, I would assume army drill sergeants are the same way.... although if you youtube search army di vs marine di I think you'll see the difference in quality

When I went through BCT back in 2010 when had a couple of reserve DS in our Platoon and total of 8 for the company. They didnt do much other than shadow our regular DSs. They were good in teaching us rifle skills , then again they had ETS'd out of the marines less than a year agoWTB:
